CD Guarnizo 1-0 Selaya FC: CD Guarnizo edged a tight Tercera División RFEF contest against Selaya FC, winning 1-0 thanks to a solitary goal and a resilient defensive display that protected the lead until the final whistle.

Match overview

This was a game of few clear chances, decided by one moment of quality in front of goal. Guarnizo started with intent and were rewarded with the opening goal, but Selaya responded with a spell of pressure that tested the home side’s concentration. The second half was a battle for control, with Guarnizo dropping deeper and Selaya probing for an equaliser. The visitors had late opportunities, but Guarnizo’s back line and goalkeeper held firm.

Key moments

• Guarnizo scored the only goal of the game after a patient attacking move opened up space inside the penalty area.
• Selaya’s best chance of the first half came from a set-piece, but the header went wide.
• After the break, Selaya increased their tempo and forced several corners, putting the home defence under pressure.
• Guarnizo’s goalkeeper produced a crucial save late in the match to deny Selaya an equaliser.
• A late break from Guarnizo nearly produced a second goal, but the finish was off target.

Tactical story

Guarnizo were happy to defend their advantage after scoring, dropping into a compact block and forcing Selaya to play around them rather than through them. Selaya had plenty of possession in the second half but struggled to create clear openings against a well-drilled defensive unit. The home side’s discipline was key: they limited space in the final third, defended crosses well, and used counter-attacks to relieve pressure when possible.

Standout performers

Guarnizo’s goalkeeper was the standout figure in the closing stages, making the decisive save that secured all three points. The centre-backs also produced a strong collective performance, dealing with a steady stream of deliveries into the box. Selaya’s midfield worked tirelessly to keep the ball moving, but the team lacked a finishing touch in the final third.

Table impact

The narrow win is a valuable boost for CD Guarnizo in the Tercera División RFEF standings, showing they can manage tight games and defend a lead. Selaya FC leave with nothing despite a committed second-half display, and they will need to turn possession into clearer chances in their next outing.
