CD Gévora secured a composed 2-0 home win over Montijo in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF, breaking through early in the second half and adding a late clincher to seal the points. The home side controlled the rhythm of the game for long spells and defended their box well when Montijo pushed forward in search of an equaliser.

Match overview

The first half was a patient affair, with Gévora dominating possession but finding it difficult to break down a disciplined Montijo defence. The visitors sat deep, compacted the central areas and looked to counter through quick transitions. Gévora moved the ball from side to side but lacked a final pass in the opening 45 minutes, and the sides went into the break level.

The second half was a different story. Gévora increased their tempo, pushed their full-backs higher and found more space between Montijo’s midfield and defence. Once the opening goal arrived, the home side looked comfortable, and they managed the closing stages professionally before adding a second goal late on.

Key moments

• 49th-minute breakthrough: Gévora’s midfielder arrived late in the box to convert a low cross from the right.
• 64th-minute chance: Montijo’s best opportunity came from a free kick, but the header went narrowly wide.
• 83rd-minute clincher: A patient passing move ended with a calm finish from the edge of the area.
• Late control: Gévora’s goalkeeper dealt with two deep crosses in stoppage time to preserve the clean sheet.

Tactical story

Gévora’s victory was built on patience and territorial control. They did not force the ball into crowded areas in the first half, instead circulating possession and waiting for Montijo’s defensive line to shift. Once the space appeared, Gévora attacked with purpose. The midfield’s ability to recycle the ball quickly was key, as was the movement of the front three, who constantly rotated positions to confuse the visitors’ markers.

Montijo defended well for long periods but offered little going forward until the final 20 minutes. By then, Gévora had taken control of the game and were able to see out the result without panic. The home side’s clean sheet was just as important as their goals, reflecting a solid defensive structure and good concentration in the closing stages.

Standout performers

Gévora’s central midfielder was the driving force, breaking the deadlock and dictating play throughout. His late runs into the box caused Montijo problems all evening. The home side’s right-back also impressed, providing width and delivering the cross for the opening goal. At the back, Gévora’s centre-back pairing were commanding in the air, limiting Montijo’s set-piece threat. For Montijo, their goalkeeper made several good saves to keep the score down, while their captain worked hard to organise the defence.

Season impact

The three points keep CD Gévora in touch with the leading pack in the Extremaduran group and underline their ability to grind out home wins. Montijo, meanwhile, will be disappointed to leave with nothing after a disciplined defensive display, but they lacked the attacking quality to trouble Gévora consistently. In the Spanish Tercera División RFEF, clean sheets and home victories are the foundation of any promotion push, and Gévora delivered both.
