Xerez Deportivo FC came from behind to beat CD Egabrense 2-1 in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on 18 October 2026, strengthening their push for a promotion play-off place. CD Egabrense started brightly and took the lead, but Xerez’s pressure and second-half control turned the match around at the Estadio Municipal de Cabra.

Match overview

CD Egabrense began with energy and looked to use set pieces and direct balls into the forward line. The approach paid off when they took the lead, but Xerez Deportivo responded with a more patient spell before half-time. After the break, the visitors raised their pressing intensity, forced mistakes and found the winning goal during a period in which they controlled the territory and tempo.

Tactical story

Xerez Deportivo’s high press and quick ball recovery were central to the comeback. CD Egabrense’s early set-piece threat faded as the hosts dropped deeper to protect the lead, allowing Xerez to build sustained pressure. The visitors also used width effectively in the second half, stretching the home defence and creating space between the lines. The winning goal came from exactly that kind of transition, with Xerez turning defence into attack in a few passes.

Standout players

Álvaro Romero’s equalising penalty shifted the momentum and his midfield work helped Xerez stay composed. Nano’s decisive goal capped a lively second-half performance, while Pablo Ruiz was CD Egabrense’s strongest performer with his aerial threat and early goal.

Season impact

Xerez Deportivo FC’s away win keeps them in the thick of the promotion race and underlines their ability to win in difficult conditions. For CD Egabrense, the result is a frustrating one after a promising start, but the performance showed they can compete against stronger opposition. In the Spanish Tercera División RFEF, where away points are precious, Xerez’s comeback could matter greatly in the final standings.
