CD Cotillas EG secured a 2-1 victory over CD Bala Azul in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on 5 October 2026, with a dominant first-half display proving enough to claim all three points in Group 13.

Match Overview

Cotillas started the game with real intent, pressing high and forcing Bala Azul into early mistakes. The home side took the lead in the 12th minute when Pedro Martínez capitalized on a defensive mix-up, stealing the ball inside the box and firing low into the corner. The early goal settled Cotillas, who continued to control possession and create chances.

Bala Azul struggled to cope with Cotillas' intense pressing and quick passing. The visitors' midfield was overrun in the first half, and their defence looked vulnerable every time Cotillas attacked. Cotillas doubled their lead in the 54th minute when Martínez grabbed his second of the match, heading home a precise cross from the right wing.

Key Moments

At 2-0, the game looked comfortable for Cotillas, but Bala Azul refused to lie down. They pulled a goal back in the 78th minute when substitute Roberto Jiménez found space at the back post and converted a low cross. The goal gave Bala Azul renewed hope, and they pushed forward in the final ten minutes in search of an equaliser.

Cotillas, however, managed the game well, dropping deeper and defending with discipline. Their goalkeeper made a crucial save in the 89th minute, tipping a fierce shot over the bar. From the resulting corner, Bala Azul's centre-back headed wide, and Cotillas held on for a valuable win.

Tactical Analysis

Cotillas set up in a 4-2-3-1 and used their wide players to stretch Bala Azul's defence. Their high press was effective in the first half, forcing turnovers in dangerous areas. Bala Azul, playing a 4-4-2, struggled to build from the back and resorted to long balls that were easily dealt with by Cotillas' centre-backs.

In the second half, Bala Azul improved after making substitutions, switching to a more direct approach and targeting the space behind Cotillas' full-backs. It nearly worked, but Cotillas' defensive resilience and game management saw them through. The win lifts Cotillas up the Group 13 table, while Bala Azul remain in need of points to climb away from the lower reaches.

Standout Players

• Pedro Martínez (CD Cotillas EG): The striker was the match-winner with two well-taken goals, leading the line with intelligence and aggression.
• Roberto Jiménez (CD Bala Azul): The substitute gave his side a lifeline with a well-taken goal and caused problems after coming on.
• Andrés López (CD Cotillas EG): The goalkeeper made a stunning late save to deny Bala Azul an equaliser, preserving the three points.

Season Impact

The victory is a significant boost for CD Cotillas EG, who move into a more comfortable position in the Tercera División RFEF Group 13 standings. Their attacking display in the first half showed what they are capable of, and if they can maintain that level, they could challenge for a higher finish. CD Bala Azul, meanwhile, will be disappointed to have conceded twice from defensive errors, and their away form remains a concern. They will need to tighten up at the back if they are to move up the table.
