CD Cardassar and CE Mercadal played out a 1-1 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on 18 October 2026, sharing the points after a closely contested Balearic derby.

Honours even in island derby

The 18:00 kick-off brought a competitive edge from the first minute, with both sides aware of the local bragging rights at stake. CE Mercadal started the brighter of the two teams, moving the ball with purpose and testing the Cardassar defence with a series of early crosses. Their positive start was rewarded midway through the first half when a well-worked move ended with a composed finish inside the box.

Match overview

CD Cardassar responded well to falling behind. They tightened up at the back and began to find more space in midfield, gradually working their way back into the contest. The home side created several half-chances before the break but could not find a way past the Mercadal goalkeeper, who was in excellent form.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Mercadal looked dangerous on the break, while Cardassar pushed more bodies forward in search of an equaliser. The pressure finally told in the closing stages when a cross from the right was only partially cleared, and the loose ball was swept home from close range. There was still time for both sides to push for a winner, but neither could find the decisive moment.

Key moments

• 31 minutes: CE Mercadal take the lead with a tidy finish after a patient build-up.
• 44 minutes: Cardassar force a strong save from the Mercadal goalkeeper with a header from a corner.
• 67 minutes: Mercadal break quickly and force a crucial block from a Cardassar defender.
• 84 minutes: CD Cardassar equalise with a close-range finish after a goalmouth scramble.
• 90+3 minutes: Both sides have late half-chances, but the game ends level.

Tactical story

Mercadal’s approach was built on quick transitions and getting the ball into wide areas, which caused Cardassar problems in the first half. Cardassar, meanwhile, relied on patient possession and tried to draw their opponents out. As the game wore on, the home side’s persistence paid off, especially after they introduced fresh legs from the bench. The equaliser came from exactly the kind of pressure they had been building.

Standout performers

The Mercadal goalkeeper was one of the best players on the pitch, making several important saves to keep his side ahead for as long as possible. Cardassar’s substitute made a real impact after coming on, adding energy and creativity in the final third. Both captains led by example in a match that was played with plenty of commitment.

What the point means

The draw keeps both teams in the mid-table region of the Tercera División RFEF, with plenty of games still to come. Cardassar will be pleased with their resilience, while Mercadal will rue the chances they had to put the game beyond reach. In a derby like this, though, a point away from home is rarely a bad result — and both sides will take positives from a competitive afternoon.
