Deportivo Maritimo claimed a hard-fought 2-1 away victory over CD Algar in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF, a result that underlines their credentials as one of the more resilient sides in the division. On a night when the home side asked plenty of questions, Maritimo found the answers through organisation, patience, and two well-taken goals.

Match Overview

CD Algar started brightly, using the width of their home pitch and pushing their full-backs forward to pin Maritimo back. For the opening 20 minutes the visitors were content to defend their shape, blocking crosses and forcing Algar into low-percentage shots from distance. That approach frustrated the home crowd and slowly shifted the momentum.

Maritimo's first goal came against the run of play but was no accident. A quick turnover in midfield was followed by a direct run at the Algar back line and a finish placed beyond the goalkeeper. The second arrived later, giving the visitors breathing room that proved decisive when Algar halved the deficit.

Key Moments

• First goal, Deportivo Maritimo: A counter-attack from a deep position ended with a composed finish into the far corner.
• Algar's best spell: Sustained pressure and a series of corners forced Maritimo into desperate blocks.
• Second goal, Maritimo: A set-piece situation or a quick combination in the box doubled the lead at a critical moment.
• Algar reply: The hosts pulled one back, setting up a tense final phase in which they threw numbers forward.
• Late defending: Maritimo held firm, clearing their lines and running down the clock intelligently.

Tactical Story

The match was a classic contrast in styles. CD Algar wanted the ball, wanted territory, and wanted to build patiently through midfield. Deportivo Maritimo wanted structure, compact lines, and quick breaks. The visitors' midfield screen was particularly effective, cutting the passing lane into Algar's most creative player and forcing the hosts into wide deliveries that were comfortably handled.

Algar's goal changed the atmosphere but not the pattern. Maritimo dropped slightly deeper, kept five players behind the ball at all times, and relied on their goalkeeper's handling under crosses. Their ability to slow the game down in the closing stages — taking throw-ins quickly when it suited them, slowly when it did not — showed real game-management maturity.

Standout Performers

Maritimo's goal scorers naturally took the headlines, but the defensive unit deserved equal praise for absorbing pressure without losing shape. The goalkeeper's command of his area was central to the result. For CD Algar, the midfielders who drove forward and the forward who scored the consolation goal were the brightest elements of an otherwise frustrating evening.

Season Impact

Away wins in the Tercera División RFEF are among the most valuable currency in Spanish football, and this is exactly the kind of result that shapes a promotion push. Maritimo leave with three points and renewed belief, while CD Algar are left to rue a night of possession without penetration.

Algar's response will be judged on how quickly they convert territorial dominance into goals in their next fixtures. Maritimo, meanwhile, will look to build on a performance that combined discipline with cutting edge.
