But Azuaga found a decisive moment in the closing stages, scoring the winning goal and then defending with maturity to see out the remaining minutes.

Tactical story

Cabeza del Buey used a direct approach, looking to win second balls and force Azuaga deep. That worked better after half-time, when the penalty brought them level. Azuaga, however, showed why they are dangerous on the counter. Their midfield trio stayed compact, and their wide players stretched the pitch whenever possession turned over. The winning goal came from exactly that pattern: a quick transition and a clinical finish.

Standout players

David Mena was the hero for CD Azuaga, not only for his late goal but also for his relentless running. Rubén Ortiz set the tone with the opener, while centre-back Antonio Gallardo dealt with a series of crosses in the second half. For Cabeza del Buey, Manuel Paredes was the most influential player, driving forward and taking responsibility from the penalty spot.

What it means in the table

CD Azuaga’s victory adds important away points to their Spanish Tercera División RFEF campaign and keeps them in a positive early-season rhythm. Cabeza del Buey are left with a narrow defeat despite a spirited second-half display. In a group where every point matters, the late winner could prove significant when the final standings are calculated.
