CA Cirbonero came from behind to beat Aoiz 2-1 in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Sunday night, with a second-half winner settling a competitive contest at Campo de San Juan. The home side showed patience and character after conceding early, turning the game around to claim three important points in the promotion race.

Match overview

Aoiz started brightly and stunned the hosts with an early goal, capitalising on a quick attack and a confident finish. Cirbonero responded well, gradually taking control of possession and forcing Aoiz deeper. The equaliser arrived before half-time, and from that point the home side looked the more likely winner.

The second half was largely played in Aoiz’s half. Cirbonero moved the ball from side to side, stretched the defence with wide runs and created several openings. The decisive goal came in the 76th minute, and although Aoiz pushed late for an equaliser, Cirbonero managed the closing stages with enough composure to protect their lead.

Key moments

• 9th minute – Aoiz take the lead: A fast break down the right caught Cirbonero’s defence off guard, and a low finish into the far corner made it 1-0 to the visitors.
• 31st minute – Cirbonero equalise: A well-worked move on the left ended with a cross into the box, and the home side’s forward converted from close range.
• 55th minute – Cirbonero push ahead: A shot from the edge of the area forced a strong save as the hosts began to dominate territory.
• 76th minute – The winner: Cirbonero’s winger cut inside from the left and curled a shot into the bottom corner to make it 2-1.
• 89th minute – Aoiz nearly level: A header from a late corner drifted just wide as the visitors made one final push.

Tactical story

Cirbonero built their comeback on width and patience. Their wide players stayed high, forcing Aoiz’s full-backs to defend deep, while the midfield worked to recycle possession and keep the pressure on. Aoiz, after their early goal, sat deeper and tried to protect their lead through compact defending and counterattacks, but they struggled to keep the ball for long enough to relieve pressure.

The home side’s willingness to keep moving the ball was key. Rather than forcing passes through the middle, Cirbonero repeatedly switched play and attacked the spaces created by Aoiz’s narrow defensive block. The winning goal was a perfect example: a wide player found room, cut inside and finished with precision.

Standout performers

Cirbonero’s left-sided winger was the game’s most influential attacker, providing constant danger and scoring the winner. Their central midfielder controlled the tempo and kept the team calm after the early setback. Aoiz’s goalkeeper made several important saves to keep the visitors in the match, while their centre-forward worked hard with limited service but took his early goal well.

What the win means

The three points give Cirbonero a timely boost in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF and strengthen their push for a promotion play-off place. Aoiz will rue a missed opportunity after a promising start, but their performance showed enough to suggest they can compete in the division. For Cirbonero, the character shown in coming from behind will be just as encouraging as the result itself.
