Aurrera de Vitoria secured an important 2-0 home victory over Real Sociedad C in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on Saturday evening, with goals in either half rewarding a disciplined and efficient performance. Jon Etxebarria opened the scoring in the 23rd minute, and Iker Zubeldia sealed the points with a composed finish on 71 minutes.

Match overview

The game pitted Aurrera’s direct, physical approach against the technical possession game of Real Sociedad C, and the home side’s plan worked almost perfectly. Aurrera pressed aggressively in the opening exchanges, forcing errors in the visiting defence and creating the first clear chances of the match. Etxebarria’s opener came from exactly that kind of pressure, as he intercepted a loose pass and drove into the box before finishing confidently.

Real Sociedad C responded with longer spells of possession and moved the ball well through midfield, but they struggled to break down a compact Aurrera back line. The home goalkeeper made two important saves before half-time, preserving the lead at a crucial stage. After the break, Aurrera dropped slightly deeper and looked to hit on the counter, a strategy that paid off when Zubeldia doubled the advantage.

Tactical story

Aurrera de Vitoria lined up with a compact 4-4-2, prioritising defensive shape and quick transitions. Their midfield screened the back four effectively, limiting Real Sociedad C’s ability to play through the middle. When the visitors moved wide, Aurrera’s full-backs pressed aggressively, forcing backward passes and slowing the tempo.

Real Sociedad C had more possession but lacked penetration in the final third. Their young attacking players found little space between the lines, and crosses into the box were comfortably dealt with by Aurrera’s centre-backs. The second goal was a perfect illustration of the home side’s game plan: a patient defensive phase followed by a rapid break that ended with Zubeldia finishing coolly.

Standout players

Jon Etxebarria was influential throughout, not only for his goal but also for his work rate off the ball. Iker Zubeldia’s second-half cameo included the decisive goal and several intelligent runs that relieved pressure. Aurrera’s goalkeeper also deserves credit for two crucial saves that kept the clean sheet intact. For Real Sociedad C, the midfield showed technical quality, but the final ball was missing.

Table and season impact

The win strengthens Aurrera de Vitoria’s push for a promotion playoff spot in the Tercera División RFEF standings. A clean sheet against a development side with technical quality will boost confidence, especially with a demanding run of fixtures ahead. For Real Sociedad C, the result is a reminder of the fine margins in the division; they will need to convert possession into clearer chances if they are to climb the table.

Aurrera’s ability to mix defensive discipline with quick counter-attacks makes them a dangerous opponent, and this performance will be viewed as a template for the rest of the campaign.
