Atletico Arteixo and UD Somozas played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF, a result that satisfied nobody entirely but showcased exactly why the Galician section of the fourth tier remains so competitive. Four goals, a swinging momentum and a tense finish made this one of the weekend's more watchable fixtures.

Match Overview

Atletico Arteixo, playing on home soil near A Coruña, started brightly and looked to impose themselves through quick combinations in the attacking third. UD Somozas, travelling from the Ferrol area, responded with a compact, disciplined structure and a clear plan to attack down the flanks.

The lead changed hands across the 90 minutes, and both sides had genuine chances to claim a winner in the closing stages. In the end, the draw was arguably the fairest reflection of a game in which both defences struggled to contain direct running.

Key Moments

• Early opener: Arteixo struck first, finishing off a flowing move that cut through the Somozas midfield.
• Immediate response: Somozas equalised before the interval, punishing a loose ball on the edge of the area.
• Second half turnaround: The visitors took the lead after the restart with a header from a wide delivery.
• Late leveller: Arteixo pressed hard and found the equaliser, converting sustained pressure into a goal.
• Stoppage-time drama: Both teams had set-piece opportunities in the final minutes but could not find a fifth goal.

Tactical Story

The match highlighted two contrasting philosophies. Arteixo wanted the ball, circulating it patiently and looking for overloads on the wings, while Somozas were content to defend in a mid-to-low block and spring forward quickly when the opportunity arose. That combination produced a game with plenty of transitions and a surprising number of clear chances for a fourth-tier fixture.

Arteixo's biggest difficulty was protecting their back line after losing possession. Twice they were caught with too many players committed forward, and twice Somozas made them pay. Conversely, Somozas struggled when Arteixo switched play quickly from one flank to the other, which is precisely how the home side created their equaliser.

Standout Performers

Arteixo's attacking midfielder was at the centre of nearly everything positive for the home team, linking play and arriving late in the box. Their full-backs provided constant width and delivered the crosses that caused the most trouble. For Somozas, the target forward held the ball up superbly and won his share of aerial duels against a physically strong defence, while their goalkeeper made two important saves at 2-2.

Season Impact

In the Tercera División RFEF, where the margins between promotion contenders and mid-table sides are razor thin, points dropped at home can be costly. Arteixo will be frustrated to have conceded twice on their own pitch, but the character shown in coming back from a deficit is a genuine positive.

Somozas, meanwhile, extend an encouraging run of form on the road. Drawing away against a direct regional rival keeps them in touch with the chasing pack and reinforces their reputation as one of the hardest teams in the group to break down.
