Alcantarilla and EF Santa Cruz played out a 1-1 draw in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF on 5 October 2026, with a late equaliser denying the hosts all three points in their Group 13 clash at the Estadio Municipal de Alcantarilla.

Match Overview

Alcantarilla started the match on the front foot, using their pacey wingers to stretch the Santa Cruz defence. The home side took a deserved lead in the 22nd minute when Javier Moreno latched onto a through ball, rounded the goalkeeper, and slotted into an empty net. It was a goal that reflected Alcantarilla's early dominance.

EF Santa Cruz struggled to find their rhythm in the first half, often losing possession in midfield and allowing Alcantarilla to dictate play. However, a tactical adjustment at half-time saw the visitors switch to a more compact 5-3-2 formation, which stifled Alcantarilla's attacking threat and gave Santa Cruz a foothold in the game.

Key Moments

Despite their improved shape, Santa Cruz still struggled to create clear chances until the 70th minute, when striker Carlos Ibarra forced a fine save from the Alcantarilla goalkeeper with a header from a corner. As the game wore on, Alcantarilla sat deeper and deeper, inviting pressure. Their resistance was finally broken in the 88th minute when substitute Pablo Sánchez pounced on a loose ball inside the box and smashed it home to level the score.

The goal sparked wild celebrations from the Santa Cruz bench, while Alcantarilla were left to rue their failure to kill the game off. In the dying moments, the hosts threw bodies forward in search of a winner, but Santa Cruz held firm for a hard-earned point.

Tactical Analysis

Alcantarilla's first-half performance was built on quick transitions and direct running. Their midfield trio won the majority of second balls, and their full-backs pushed high to provide width. However, as the game progressed, they dropped deeper and conceded territory. Santa Cruz's change to a back five allowed their wing-backs to push forward, and their late pressure eventually told.

The draw will feel like two points dropped for Alcantarilla, who were the better side for long periods. For Santa Cruz, the late equaliser will provide a morale boost and demonstrates their resilience. Both teams remain in the mid-to-lower reaches of Group 13, and both will need to find more consistency to climb the table.

Standout Players

• Javier Moreno (Alcantarilla): The forward's first-half goal was a moment of real quality, and his movement caused problems all afternoon.
• Pablo Sánchez (EF Santa Cruz): The substitute made an instant impact, scoring the late equaliser and adding energy to the attack.
• Álvaro Gil (Alcantarilla): The goalkeeper made several important saves before being beaten late on, and his distribution was excellent.

Season Impact

The point leaves Alcantarilla frustrated but still in a solid position in the table. They have shown they can compete, but closing out games remains a challenge. EF Santa Cruz, meanwhile, will take confidence from a battling away performance. The draw keeps both sides within touching distance of the teams above them, and with plenty of football still to play, neither will be too concerned about their current standing.
