Alcantarilla claimed a deserved 2-0 victory over CD Cotillas EG in the Spanish Tercera División RFEF, a result built on efficiency in front of goal and a defensive display that never looked like being breached. In a regional derby carrying local pride as well as league points, the home side handled the occasion with maturity.

Match Overview

The fixture, part of the September 2026 round of Tercera División RFEF matches, brought together two clubs separated by only a few kilometres in the Murcia region. That proximity added intensity to the opening exchanges, with both sides snapping into tackles and refusing to give an inch.

Alcantarilla gradually established the upper hand, taking the lead before the interval and then managing the game expertly. A second goal in the second half put the result beyond doubt, and the closing stages were played out with the hosts comfortably in control.

• Result: Alcantarilla 2-0 CD Cotillas EG
• Competition: Spanish Tercera División RFEF
• Clean sheet: Alcantarilla's defence held firm for ninety minutes
• Context: A local derby decided by clinical finishing

Key Moments

The opening goal arrived after a patient spell of possession in which Alcantarilla patiently shifted the ball from flank to flank. The breakthrough came from a well-timed run into the box and a finish struck first time, giving the goalkeeper no chance.

Cotillas EG responded with their best period of the match, forcing a couple of corners and testing the home defence with long throws into the area. But the equaliser never came, and the home side's back line stood tall, clearing their lines with authority.

The decisive second goal came on the counter-attack. Having absorbed pressure, Alcantarilla broke quickly through the middle, and the attacker drew the keeper before finishing coolly. That moment effectively ended the contest as a competitive affair.

Tactical Story

Alcantarilla's plan was built on defensive compactness and rapid transition. Rather than commit numbers forward in open play, they kept a solid base, allowed Cotillas to have the ball in harmless areas and then attacked the spaces left behind when the visitors pushed up.

Cotillas EG tried to stretch the game with width, sending their full-backs forward to create overloads. The problem was the space that left behind, and Alcantarilla's forwards were alert to it throughout. On another day the visitors might have scored, but their final ball repeatedly fell short of the standard needed.

Set pieces were another area where the home side excelled. Their marking was disciplined and their goalkeeper dealt comfortably with crosses, denying Cotillas the scrappy goal that could have changed the mood of the match.

Standout Performers

Alcantarilla's two goalscorers take the headlines, and both finishes were taken with confidence. Equally important, however, was the performance of the defensive unit, which kept its shape admirably and limited the visitors to half-chances from distance.

The midfielders deserve credit for the balance they struck between protecting the back four and supporting attacks. For Cotillas EG, the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the scoreline respectable, and one of their wingers was a constant outlet, even if the end product did not match the endeavour.

Season Impact

Three points and a clean sheet is the ideal combination in the Tercera División RFEF, and Alcantarilla will view this as a template for the rest of the campaign. Derby victories also carry a psychological dividend that extends well beyond the league table, lifting confidence across the squad and the stands.

For CD Cotillas EG, the challenge is to convert possession into penetration. The performance contained encouraging elements, but the club will need goals from somewhere if it is to climb away from the congested middle of the division.
