Monaco U19 Edge Out Nice U19 in Riviera Derby

Monaco U19 emerged victorious in a fiercely contested French U19 Youth League derby against Nice U19, claiming a narrow 1-0 win at their training centre. The sole goal of the match proved enough to separate the two Mediterranean rivals, with Monaco’s young side showing both tactical discipline and clinical edge in an encounter that lived up to its derby billing.

The game began at a rapid tempo, with Nice looking to impose themselves physically and Monaco seeking to play through the thirds with quick combinations. It was Monaco who struck first midway through the opening period. A neat interchange on the left flank freed their winger, whose low delivery was turned home from close range by a forward making a well-timed run in the six-yard box. The goal galvanised the home side, who controlled possession for long spells, although Nice always threatened on the counter.

Nice Push for an Equaliser but Monaco Hold Firm

As the second half progressed, Nice pushed more players forward in search of an equaliser. Their most dangerous moment came when a curling free-kick from the edge of the area forced an excellent fingertip save from the Monaco goalkeeper, who tipped the ball onto the crossbar. Monaco were happy to soak up pressure and occasionally break downfield, and they nearly doubled their lead when a swift counter-attack ended with a shot that flashed just wide.

Nice’s late pressure included several aerial balls into the box, but the Monaco backline remained resolute, clearing lines and winning vital headers under duress. When the referee sounded the full-time whistle, the home players celebrated a hard-earned derby victory. The result gives Monaco U19 an important boost in the French U19 Youth League standings, while Nice U19 will rue missed chances but can take positives from a strong away performance.
