Real Valladolid B edged Real Ávila CF 2-1 in the Spanish Segunda División RFEF on 18 October 2026, with a late goal deciding a closely fought contest. The match was a test of patience and composure, and Valladolid B’s ability to find a decisive moment in the final stages proved the difference between the sides.

Match overview

Real Valladolid B started with intent, controlling possession and looking to stretch Real Ávila CF with quick switches of play. Their early pressure paid off in the 18th minute when Diego Álvarez opened the scoring. Ávila responded well, defending deeper and looking to hit on the counter. They equalised in the second half through Sergio Marcos, setting up a tense finale.

Both sides had chances to win it, but Valladolid B’s substitutions and renewed attacking impetus paid off late on. Álvaro Sanz’s 82nd-minute goal gave the home side the lead again, and this time they managed the closing minutes well to secure all three points.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Diego Álvarez gave Real Valladolid B the lead with a low finish after a neat passing move.
• 55th minute: Sergio Marcos equalised for Real Ávila CF, converting a counter-attack with a calm finish.
• 82nd minute: Álvaro Sanz scored the winning goal, arriving in the box to turn home a cross.

Tactical story

Valladolid B’s approach was patient and possession-based. They looked to draw Ávila out of their defensive shape and then exploit the spaces behind the midfield line. The opening goal came from a well-constructed move, with quick passing opening up the defence. However, Valladolid B struggled to maintain that control after taking the lead, allowing Ávila to grow into the game.

Real Ávila CF were compact and disciplined, defending in a narrow block and looking to counter through the channels. Their equaliser was a perfect example of their game plan: a quick transition, a well-timed run, and a composed finish. After that, the game became more open. Valladolid B pushed more players forward, and their persistence was rewarded when Sanz scored the winner. Ávila’s late attempts to find another equaliser lacked the necessary precision.

Standout performers

Álvaro Sanz was the hero for Real Valladolid B, not only for his winning goal but also for his energy and movement in the final third. Diego Álvarez’s first-half goal was a reward for his intelligent positioning, while the midfield trio worked hard to control the tempo. For Real Ávila CF, Sergio Marcos was excellent, scoring the equaliser and causing problems with his runs. The Ávila goalkeeper also made several important saves to keep his side in the match.

Table and season impact

The victory gives Real Valladolid B three important points in the Segunda División RFEF, boosting their momentum in a competitive group. The reserve side will take confidence from their ability to respond after conceding, as well as their improved game management in the closing stages. For Real Ávila CF, the defeat is a frustrating one, but their performance showed they can compete against strong opposition.

With the season ongoing, Valladolid B will look to build on this win and turn their possession into more consistent goal threat. Ávila, meanwhile, must recover quickly and find a way to convert their counter-attacking chances into points. The 2-1 scoreline was a fair reflection of a tight contest, decided by a moment of quality from Sanz and Valladolid B’s ability to keep pushing until the end.
