Ourense CF 0-1 Coruxo FC — Coruxo FC claimed a hard-fought 1-0 away win over Ourense CF in the Spanish Segunda División RFEF on October 17, 2026, with a second-half goal settling a tight contest at Estadio O Couto. The visitors defended with discipline and took the decisive chance that came their way, leaving Ourense to rue a night of possession without enough penetration.

Match overview

Ourense CF set the tone early, moving the ball quickly through midfield and forcing Coruxo into a deep defensive shape. The home side’s best moments came from wide areas, with deliveries into the box causing occasional panic, but Coruxo’s centre-back pairing of Iago Lorenzo and Pablo García held firm. Ourense had more of the ball and more corners, yet clear-cut chances were rare against a well-organised back line.

The only goal arrived in the 63rd minute. A loose pass in midfield was intercepted by Coruxo substitute Hugo Sanmartín, who drove forward into the space vacated by Ourense’s advanced full-backs and placed a low finish beyond the goalkeeper. It was a classic away performance: absorb pressure, stay compact, and punish the one mistake that mattered.

Key moments

• 14th minute: Ourense’s first real opening ended with a header from a corner clipping the top of the crossbar.
• 63rd minute: Hugo Sanmartín intercepted a loose pass and finished calmly to make it 0-1.
• 78th minute: Coruxo goalkeeper Álvaro Paz produced a strong save to deny Ourense’s equaliser from close range.
• 90+3 minutes: A last-ditch block from Lorenzo protected Coruxo’s clean sheet and the three points.

Tactical story

Ourense lined up in a 4-2-3-1 and looked to build through the middle, but Coruxo’s 4-4-2 mid-block forced them wide. The home full-backs pushed high, which created crossing opportunities but also left space behind for Coruxo’s counters. Coruxo’s midfield pair stayed disciplined, screening the central lane and making Ourense’s attacking midfielder drop deeper to find the ball.

After the goal, Ourense increased the tempo and pushed more bodies forward, but Coruxo’s defensive structure remained intact. The visitors were content to concede possession in harmless areas and defend their box. Ourense’s final ball lacked the precision needed to break through, and Coruxo’s goalkeeper handled the late pressure well.

Standout players

Sanmartín deserved the headlines for the winning goal, but Coruxo’s goalkeeper Álvaro Paz was equally important. His late save kept the lead intact, while Lorenzo’s reading of the game and physical presence at the back set the tone for the visitors. For Ourense, midfielder Sergio Nogueira was the most consistent performer, combining energy with neat distribution, though he lacked support in the final third.

What the result means

The three points lift Coruxo into the upper half of the Segunda División RFEF table and give the squad a valuable away result to build on. Ourense CF remain in the mid-table pack, and this will feel like a missed opportunity after controlling long spells of the match. In a division where fine margins decide promotion and relegation battles, Coruxo’s ability to win without dominating possession could prove significant.
