Lorca Deportiva and Atlético Baleares share the points in 2-2 draw

Lorca Deportiva FC and CD Atlético Baleares played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Spanish Segunda División RFEF on Sunday, 18 October 2026. The match swung one way and then the other, with Lorca twice taking the lead before Baleares rescued a point with a late equaliser.

The draw reflects the competitive nature of the Segunda División RFEF, where small details often separate promotion hopefuls from mid-table sides. Lorca Deportiva will feel they did enough to win, while Atlético Baleares will take encouragement from their resilience and ability to respond under pressure.

Match overview

Lorca Deportiva started with purpose and took the lead in the 21st minute through Juanma García, who finished neatly after a flowing move down the right. The home side’s midfield controlled the tempo for much of the first half, but Baleares found an equaliser in the 35th minute when Álvaro Rodríguez converted from close range after a corner was only partially cleared.

The second half followed a similar pattern. Lorca regained the advantage in the 67th minute when Sergio López struck from the edge of the box, but Baleares refused to fold. Their persistence paid off in the 88th minute when Marc Vidal converted a penalty after a foul inside the area, sealing a dramatic share of the spoils.

Key moments

• 21st minute: Juanma García gives Lorca Deportiva the lead with a composed finish.
• 35th minute: Álvaro Rodríguez levels for CD Atlético Baleares after a set-piece scramble.
• 67th minute: Sergio López restores Lorca’s advantage with a fine strike from outside the box.
• 88th minute: Marc Vidal scores a pressure penalty to make it 2-2.
• 90+4 minutes: Lorca push for a winner, but Baleares defend the final attack bravely.

Tactical story

Lorca Deportiva’s game plan centred on controlling possession and attacking through the flanks. Their full-backs pushed high, creating overloads that Baleares struggled to contain in the first half. However, that attacking intent left space at the back, and Baleares were dangerous on the counter-attack and from set pieces.

Atlético Baleares showed tactical flexibility after the interval, pressing higher and forcing Lorca into more hurried clearances. The introduction of fresh legs gave them greater energy in the final 20 minutes, and the late penalty was the reward for their persistence. Lorca, meanwhile, will be disappointed with how they managed the closing stages after taking the lead for a second time.

Standout players

Juanma García was a constant threat for Lorca Deportiva, linking play intelligently and opening the scoring with a confident finish. Sergio López’s goal was a moment of individual quality, and his midfield energy helped Lorca dominate long spells. For Baleares, Álvaro Rodríguez’s equaliser was crucial, while Marc Vidal showed composure to convert the late penalty in a high-pressure moment.

Season impact

The draw keeps both sides in the thick of the Segunda División RFEF conversation. Lorca Deportiva will view it as two points dropped, especially after leading twice, but the performance confirmed their attacking potential. Atlético Baleares, meanwhile, can take satisfaction from a resilient away display that demonstrated character and set-piece threat. As the season develops, both teams will need to turn promising performances into consistent results.
