CF Talavera de la Reina 2-1 CD Atlético Paso — CF Talavera de la Reina claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over CD Atlético Paso in the Spanish Segunda Federación on Sunday 11 October 2026, coming from behind to take all three points in front of their home supporters.

Match overview

The Segunda Federación — the fourth tier of the Spanish football pyramid, known until recently as the Segunda División RFEF — is a division where home form often decides a club's season, and this was a textbook example. Talavera, a club with a proud recent history and a well-supported home stadium, hosted a side from the Canary Islands in a fixture that involved one of the longest journeys in Spanish football. Atlético Paso, based in El Paso on the island of La Palma, arrived with the resilience required of any team accustomed to long mainland trips.

How the game unfolded

It was the visitors who struck first, capitalising on a bright opening spell and finishing a quick attacking move to silence the home crowd. The goal sparked Talavera into life. Pushing their wingers higher and committing bodies forward, they levelled before the interval with a well-placed finish after a period of sustained pressure and a series of corners that stretched the Atlético Paso defence.

The winner came in the second half, and it was no surprise that it arrived from a set piece — Talavera's height advantage in the box had looked like the most likely route to goal all afternoon. A delivery into the danger zone was met decisively, and the ball was diverted past the goalkeeper to complete the turnaround.

Tactical story

Talavera's approach was direct and purposeful: get the ball wide, deliver early, and attack the second balls around the penalty area. Atlético Paso, technically tidy and keen to play through midfield, found the physical duel increasingly difficult as the game wore on and the pitch became a battleground of second balls.

• Talavera: aggressive in the air, dominant from set pieces, and relentless in the second half.
• Atlético Paso: composed in possession with neat combinations, but ultimately overrun physically after the break.

Standout performers

Talavera's goalscorers took their chances well, but the game was arguably decided by their midfield, who kept the tempo high and won a stream of loose balls in the opposition half. The goalkeeper also earned his team the win with a superb save in the closing minutes, pushing a fierce effort around the post to preserve the lead. For Atlético Paso, their goalscorer and their left-sided attacker were the standout performers, combining well and repeatedly troubling the home defence in the first half.

What the result means

Three points at home in the Segunda Federación are vital — particularly in a division where the table is often compressed and the difference between the promotion play-off places and mid-table can come down to a handful of results. The victory strengthens Talavera's position in their group and gives the squad belief after conceding first. For Atlético Paso, the trip home will be a long one, and the challenge now is to convert good away performances into points.

The bigger picture

Spanish football's lower divisions are among the most demanding in Europe, combining long travel, physical football and a constant flow of young players seeking a breakthrough. For clubs like Talavera and Atlético Paso, a strong campaign offers not just local pride but the prospect of promotion to the Primera Federación — the third tier and the gateway to professional football.
