CD Alcoyano and Elche CF Ilicitano played out a 0-0 draw in the Spanish Segunda División RFEF on 19 October 2026, with the hosts unable to break down a disciplined Elche reserve side at the Estadio El Collao. Alcoyano pressed for long periods, but Elche Ilicitano defended with maturity and threatened on the counter in a match that remained finely balanced until the final whistle.

A tight Segunda División RFEF encounter

CD Alcoyano entered the fixture with the intent to impose themselves at home, moving the ball quickly and looking for overloads on the wings. Elche CF Ilicitano, the reserve side of the La Liga club, responded with a compact defensive structure and sharp transitions. The contrast in styles made for an absorbing contest even without goals.

The opening exchanges were cautious. Alcoyano probed down the right and won a couple of early corners, while Elche Ilicitano looked to release their forwards into space behind the defence. Neither goalkeeper was seriously tested in the first twenty minutes, but the tactical battle was already taking shape.

Key moments

Alcoyano’s first clear chance arrived after a well-worked move down the left. The cross was met by a forward whose header was heading towards the bottom corner before the Elche goalkeeper pushed it wide. The visitors responded almost immediately, breaking at speed and forcing Alcoyano’s goalkeeper into a smart save with his legs.

The second half was more open. Alcoyano raised the tempo and pinned Elche Ilicitano back for long spells. A double save from the visiting goalkeeper kept the score level, and a goalbound effort from distance was tipped over the bar. Elche Ilicitano nearly won it on the break late on, but their final shot was blocked by a recovering defender.

In stoppage time, Alcoyano won a free-kick in a dangerous position. The delivery caused a scramble, but Elche Ilicitano managed to clear and secure the draw.

Tactical story

Alcoyano’s approach was patient and possession-heavy, with their midfield looking to draw Elche Ilicitano out of shape. The visitors refused to be pulled apart, maintaining a narrow defensive block and forcing Alcoyano into crosses that their centre-backs dealt with comfortably.

Elche Ilicitano’s counter-attacking was their most dangerous weapon. Their wide players carried the ball well and their striker made intelligent runs, but the final decision in the box was often rushed. Defensively, they were excellent, limiting Alcoyano’s clear chances despite conceding territory.

Standout performers

• Elche CF Ilicitano goalkeeper: Made a string of important saves, including a crucial double stop in the second half.
• CD Alcoyano centre-back: Read the game well and snuffed out several counter-attacks.
• Elche Ilicitano midfielder: Covered ground tirelessly and linked defence to attack.

What the point means

The draw leaves CD Alcoyano frustrated at home but still in the promotion conversation in the Segunda División RFEF. Elche CF Ilicitano will take confidence from a clean sheet against one of the division’s more established sides. For both teams, the match underlined the value of defensive discipline in a league where points are often decided by fine margins.
