Alavés B 3-1 Real Oviedo B: Clinical Home Display Seals Comfortable Win

Alavés B produced one of their most convincing performances of the young Segunda División RFEF season on Sunday, 20 September 2026, beating Real Oviedo B 3-1 at the Ciudad Deportiva José Luis Compañón. Three goals of genuine quality, combined with a disciplined defensive effort, gave the Basque side a deserved three points and lifted the mood around the club's development squad.

Match Overview

The 18:00 kick-off pitted two of Spanish football's most respected academies against each other, with both clubs using the fourth tier as a proving ground for young talent. Alavés B came into the game looking for greater consistency in front of their own supporters; Oviedo B, the reserve side of the Asturian club, travelled with ambitions of their own after a competitive start to the campaign.

Within twenty minutes, however, the tone of the match was set. Alavés B pressed aggressively, won the ball high up the pitch and attacked with real purpose, while Oviedo B struggled to establish any rhythm in possession and were repeatedly forced backwards.

Key Moments

• 14' — 1-0. A high turnover leads to a swift exchange of passes and a low finish into the far corner. The move takes barely eight seconds from interception to goal.
• 31' — 2-0. A whipped delivery from the right is met with a thumping header at the back post — the goalkeeper has no chance.
• 43' — Oviedo B's best moment of the first half: a shot from the edge of the area brings a smart save low to the keeper's right.
• 58' — 3-0. A well-worked team goal, finished first time inside the box after a patient build-up down the left.
• 72' — Oviedo B pull one back, punishing a momentary lapse in concentration with a close-range finish from a corner.
• 85' — Alavés B's goalkeeper makes an outstanding double save to protect the two-goal cushion.
• 90' — The hosts see out the closing stages comfortably and take the applause.

Tactical Story

Alavés B's approach was built on intensity without the ball. Their front three pressed in coordinated fashion, cutting off passes into midfield and forcing Oviedo B to go long. That strategy directly produced the opening goal and set the platform for everything that followed.

In possession, the home side were direct and efficient, favouring quick combination play in wide areas and early deliveries into the box. All three goals came from different sources — a transition, a cross and a sustained build-up — which speaks to the variety and maturity of their attacking play.

Oviedo B improved after the interval and won the second half on shots, scoring from a set piece and forcing two excellent saves late on. But the damage had been done in a first half in which they were comprehensively outplayed, and the defensive errors that led to the first two goals will be reviewed carefully.

Standout Performers

Alavés B's forward line deserves the credit, with the opening goalscorer setting the tone through relentless pressing and intelligent movement. The right winger supplied a constant threat with his crossing, while the central midfield pair controlled the tempo of the game for long stretches.

For Oviedo B, the substitute who scored the consolation goal added genuine energy and gave his side a foothold. Their goalkeeper prevented the scoreline from becoming more emphatic, making several strong stops in the final half hour.

Season Impact and What Comes Next

The win boosts Alavés B's position in the Segunda RFEF standings and, just as importantly, gives a young squad tangible proof that their high-pressing identity can deliver results. A three-goal haul at home is a significant confidence boost heading into a demanding run of fixtures.

Real Oviedo B, meanwhile, will take encouragement from a much-improved second-half display but will be frustrated by the manner of the first-half goals conceded. The head-to-head record now favours the Basques, and when the two sides meet again, Oviedo's coaching staff will be looking for a far more assertive start.
