SD Huesca 0-0 Atletico de Madrid B: Stalemate in Primera División RFEF

SD Huesca were held to a frustrating 0-0 draw by Atletico de Madrid B in the Primera División RFEF, despite dominating large periods of the match. The result leaves Huesca's promotion push slightly off track, while Atletico's young side earned a hard-fought away point.

Match Overview

Huesca, playing at the Estadio El Alcoraz, started with intent, moving the ball quickly and pressing Atletico B high. The visitors, known for their technical quality and tactical discipline, sat deep and looked to hit on the break. The first half was largely one-way traffic, with Huesca creating several half-chances but failing to find a breakthrough.

Key Moments

The best chance of the first half fell to Huesca's striker, who was denied by a superb save from Atletico's goalkeeper. Shortly after, a Huesca midfielder rattled the crossbar with a powerful drive from outside the box. Atletico B rarely threatened but came close on a counter-attack, only to be stopped by a last-ditch tackle.

In the second half, Huesca continued to press, but Atletico's defense held firm. A late penalty appeal for handball was waved away, summing up Huesca's frustration. The visitors defended with discipline and nearly stole all three points with a stoppage-time free-kick that narrowly missed the target.

Tactical Analysis

Huesca played a 4-4-2 formation, with their full-backs pushing high to create width. They dominated possession (68%) and completed over 500 passes, but lacked a cutting edge in the final third. Atletico de Madrid B, set up in a 4-2-3-1, defended compactly and looked to counter through their pacey wingers. Their game plan was clear: soak up pressure and hit on the break.

The key battle was in midfield, where Huesca's creative players found little space. Atletico's double pivot screened the defense effectively, forcing Huesca to shoot from distance. The visitors' goalkeeper was named man of the match for his heroics.

Standout Players

Atletico B's goalkeeper was outstanding, making five saves, including two from point-blank range. His command of the area and distribution under pressure were impressive. For Huesca, the center-back pairing was solid, but the attacking players will be disappointed they couldn't convert their dominance into goals. The young Atletico midfielder Javier Boñar also caught the eye with his composure on the ball.

Season Impact and Standings

The draw leaves Huesca in the playoff places but they missed the chance to close the gap on the top two. Atletico de Madrid B, meanwhile, continue to impress in their development, moving further away from the relegation zone. With the season entering a crucial phase, Huesca must find their scoring touch to sustain their promotion challenge.
