Match overview

Gimnastic de Tarragona started positively in front of their own supporters, pressing with intent and looking to dominate the ball in midfield. Atletico de Madrid B, as expected, were well organised and dangerous in transition. The visitors had spells of control, but Gimnastic’s greater cutting edge in the final third proved decisive.

The game was decided by small margins. Both teams created chances, but Gimnastic were more clinical when the key moments arrived. Atletico de Madrid B pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but the home defence stood strong to protect a hard-fought victory.

Key moments

• Gimnastic opened the scoring after building pressure down the right and delivering a dangerous ball into the box.
• Atletico de Madrid B responded with a spell of possession and equalised through a well-executed attacking move.
• The home side regained the lead in the second half with a composed finish after winning the ball back high up the pitch.
• Late pressure from Atletico B produced corners and crosses, but Gimnastic defended with focus and discipline.

Tactical story

Gimnastic’s approach was based on controlling midfield and using quick switches of play to stretch Atletico’s defensive block. Their full-backs provided width, while the central midfielders looked to arrive late in the box. That movement caused problems for Atletico de Madrid B, who were often forced to defend deep and concede territory.

Atletico de Madrid B showed their quality in possession, particularly when their midfielders were able to turn and drive forward. However, they lacked the final touch in key moments and were punished for allowing Gimnastic to regain the lead soon after equalising. The home side’s ability to win second balls and press at the right moments made the difference.

Season impact

The win strengthens Gimnastic de Tarragona’s position in the Spanish Primera División RFEF and gives them confidence ahead of a demanding run of fixtures. For Atletico de Madrid B, the defeat is a reminder of how competitive the division is and how costly small lapses can be. The visitors will look to bounce back quickly, while Gimnastic can enjoy a well-earned home victory.
