FC Cartagena powered to a 4-1 victory over Águilas CF in the Spanish Primera División RFEF on October 4, 2026, with a brace from Dani Escudero helping the hosts take full control at the Estadio Cartagonova.

Cartagena’s win was built on a fast start, incisive wide play, and clinical finishing. Águilas CF showed flashes of attacking quality and scored a well-taken consolation, but they were ultimately undone by defensive errors and Cartagena’s ability to create chances from both flanks.

Match Overview

The home side needed only eight minutes to open the scoring. Dani Escudero found space on the left side of the box and curled a low shot into the far corner. Cartagena doubled their lead in the 39th minute when Álvaro Muñoz arrived late in the area to convert a cut-back from the right. The scoreline reflected Cartagena’s control, but Águilas remained dangerous on the break.

Águilas pulled one back in the 62nd minute through Javi Flores, whose header from a deep cross beat the goalkeeper. Tactical Story

Cartagena set up to attack the space behind Águilas’ full-backs, using their wingers to stretch the defence and deliver early crosses. The midfield trio controlled the centre of the pitch, winning second balls and launching quick counterattacks. When Águilas tried to press high, Cartagena bypassed them with accurate long passes into the channels.

Águilas CF struggled to contain the overloads on the flanks. Their defensive line dropped too deep when Cartagena advanced, allowing the hosts to shoot from the edge of the area. Going forward, Águilas looked most threatening from set pieces and crosses, which produced their only goal. However, they left too much space in behind when chasing the game, and Cartagena punished them late on.

Standout Players

Dani Escudero was the match-winner for FC Cartagena, with two well-taken goals and constant movement that unsettled the Águilas back line. Álvaro Muñoz controlled midfield and arrived in the box at the right time, while Kike Ríos added energy and a goal from the right. The Cartagena goalkeeper made two important saves at 2-0 to preserve the lead.

For Águilas CF, Javi Flores took his goal well and was their most positive attacking player. The goalkeeper was busy throughout and made several stops to keep the score from becoming even more one-sided.

Season Impact

The victory strengthens FC Cartagena’s position in the Spanish Primera División RFEF standings and adds to their goal difference. It was a statement performance at home, showing the depth of their attacking options and their ability to score in different ways. Águilas CF will need to tighten up defensively, especially when facing teams with pace out wide. The result leaves them searching for consistency as the season progresses.
