CD Coria claimed an important 2-1 victory over Athletic Bilbao B in the Spanish Primera División RFEF on Sunday evening, with a late goal settling a hard-fought contest at the Estadio La Isla.

The home side delivered a disciplined performance against a technically accomplished Athletic Bilbao B team, blending organized defending with decisive moments in the final third. The three points give Coria a timely boost in a league where consistency is often the difference between a comfortable season and a relegation battle.

Match overview

Coria began with energy and were rewarded for their early pressing when Javi López opened the scoring after a quick turnover in midfield. The goal gave the home side confidence, and they managed the game well for much of the first half, limiting Athletic Bilbao B to possession without penetration.

Athletic Bilbao B improved after the break and equalised through Aitor Etxebarria, whose composed finish capped a sustained spell of pressure. The visitors looked the more likely side to go on and win it, but Coria responded with character and found the winning goal in the closing stages.

Tactical story

Coria set up compactly, inviting Athletic Bilbao B to play in front of them while looking to strike on the counter. The home side’s midfield worked tirelessly to close central spaces, forcing the visitors wide. Athletic Bilbao B dominated possession in the second half but struggled to create clear chances against a deep and disciplined block. Coria’s willingness to adapt and defend their box proved crucial, and their set-piece threat ultimately decided the match.

Standout players

Javi López was influential for Coria, not only for his goal but also for his link-up play and work rate. The Coria goalkeeper deserved credit for a crucial second-half save, while Athletic Bilbao B’s Etxebarria was their most dangerous attacker. The visitors’ young side showed composure in possession but lacked the final cutting edge.

Season impact

For CD Coria, the win is a confidence boost and a reminder of their ability to compete against strong opposition. Athletic Bilbao B will be disappointed to leave with nothing after controlling long spells, but their development-focused project will take encouragement from the performance. In the Spanish Primera División RFEF, fine margins decide games, and Coria found the decisive moment when it mattered.
