Final score: Arenas Club de Getxo 0-3 Athletic Bilbao B

Athletic Bilbao B delivered one of their most complete away performances of the Spanish Primera División RFEF season on September 27, 2026, beating Arenas Club de Getxo 3-0 at Estadio Gobela. The visitors were sharper from the opening whistle, controlled the tempo of the match, and punished Arenas with three well-taken goals that underlined the quality of Bilbao’s academy pipeline.

Opening summary and context

The fixture carried the extra weight of a Basque derby, with Arenas Club de Getxo — one of the historic names in Spanish football — hosting Athletic Bilbao B, the reserve side of one of La Liga’s most tradition-rich clubs. Arenas came into the match hoping to use home advantage and local knowledge to frustrate a younger opponent, but Bilbao B arrived with confidence and a clear tactical plan. The result moves Athletic Bilbao B into a stronger position in the early-season standings, while Arenas are left to reflect on a night when they were second-best in both boxes.

Key moments that decided the match

• 18’ — Bilbao B take the lead: Aitor Zubiaurre opened the scoring after a quick turnover in midfield. The forward received the ball on the edge of the area, shifted onto his right foot, and placed a low shot beyond the Arenas goalkeeper.
• 39’ — The lead doubles: Iñaki Azkune doubled the advantage with a composed finish following a flowing move down the right. Arenas failed to clear their lines, and Bilbao’s pressing midfielder slid the ball into Azkune, who made no mistake from close range.
• 72’ — Game over: Mikel Sarasketa added the third with a header from a corner. The Arenas defence had struggled with set-pieces all evening, and Sarasketa rose highest at the near post to seal the three points.

Tactical story

Athletic Bilbao B set up in a fluid 4-2-3-1 that became a 4-3-3 when they pressed high. Their midfield trio cut off Arenas’ attempts to play through the middle, forcing the home side into long balls that were comfortably dealt with by Bilbao’s centre-backs. Arenas tried to respond with a 4-4-2 shape and occasional wide overloads, but their best attacks came from isolated moments rather than sustained pressure. Bilbao’s intensity without the ball was the defining feature: they won possession quickly, attacked the space behind Arenas’ full-backs, and looked dangerous every time they broke forward.

Standout players

Aitor Zubiaurre was the most influential attacker on the pitch, not only for his opening goal but for his link-up play and movement between the lines. Iñaki Azkune’s energy in midfield set the tone, while Mikel Sarasketa combined defensive solidity with a decisive attacking contribution from a set-piece. For Arenas, the goalkeeper made several saves to keep the score respectable, and the captain tried to drive the team forward, but clear-cut chances were rare.

Table impact and what’s next

For Athletic Bilbao B, the win is a valuable boost in the Primera División RFEF standings and reinforces their reputation as one of the most dangerous reserve sides in the division. The three-goal margin also improves their goal difference, which can matter in a tight promotion or playoff race. Arenas Club de Getxo, meanwhile, will need to tighten up defensively and find more creativity in midfield. The head-to-head result gives Bilbao B bragging rights in this Basque matchup, and both teams will now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures with very different emotions.
