Eldense 2-1 Cordoba: Late Winner Settles Tight Segunda Division Contest

Eldense secured a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Cordoba in the Spanish Segunda Division on 11 October 2026, with a late goal at the Estadio Municipal Nuevo Pepico Amat deciding a closely contested match. The win boosts Eldense’s push toward the playoff places, while Cordoba are left to rue missed chances in a game they could have drawn or even won.

It was a typical Segunda Division battle: intense, tactical and decided by small details. Eldense started brightly, Cordoba responded well after the break, and the hosts found the decisive moment in the closing stages. The three points were celebrated with real passion at the final whistle.

Match Overview

Eldense began with a high tempo, pressing Cordoba’s defenders and looking to force mistakes. Their reward came in the 23rd minute when Marcos Baselga reacted quickest inside the box to turn home a loose ball. Cordoba gradually settled and began to find space in midfield, equalising in the 58th minute through Kike Márquez, who finished neatly after a well-worked move down the left.

With the game level, both sides pushed for a winner. Eldense’s substitutes made an impact, adding energy and directness. The decisive moment arrived in the 82nd minute when Iván Chapela arrived late in the box to convert a low cross. Cordoba threw players forward in stoppage time, but Eldense defended with determination to protect their lead.

• 23rd minute: Marcos Baselga gives Eldense the lead with a poacher’s finish.

• 58th minute: Kike Márquez equalises for Cordoba with a composed finish.

Tactical Story

Eldense set up in a 4-4-2 and looked to attack quickly through the channels. Their front two worked hard to disrupt Cordoba’s build-up, and the midfield stayed compact to deny space between the lines. Cordoba preferred a 4-2-3-1, trying to control possession through central overloads and then release their wide players.

The game turned on transitions. Eldense’s best moments came when they won the ball high and attacked before Cordoba could reorganise. Cordoba’s equaliser, by contrast, came from a patient passing sequence. In the end, Eldense’s willingness to keep pushing paid off, while Cordoba were left to regret not taking their chances during their strongest spell.

Standout Players

Iván Chapela was the match-winner for Eldense, his late run and finish showing exactly the kind of attacking instinct needed in a tight Segunda Division game. Marcos Baselga’s opening goal was equally important, and the goalkeeper made a key save at 1-1. For Cordoba, Kike Márquez was the standout, linking play and scoring the equaliser, while their goalkeeper also made several solid saves.

What It Means for the Segunda Division Table

Eldense move closer to the promotion playoff places with this victory, adding momentum to what is shaping up to be a promising campaign. Cordoba remain competitive but will know that away performances must be converted into points if they are to challenge at the top end of the table. In a division where margins are famously small, a late goal like Chapela’s can be worth far more than three points; it can shape confidence for weeks.

Eldense will now look to build on this result, especially at home, where their intensity and organisation make them difficult to beat. Cordoba must regroup quickly, because the Segunda Division schedule waits for no one. This match was a reminder that in Spain’s second tier, the difference between victory and defeat is often a single moment of quality or concentration.
