Las Rozas U19 0–1 CF Rayo Majadahonda U19: Cortés Header Settles Tight Madrid Derby

CF Rayo Majadahonda U19 claimed a hard-fought 1–0 victory away at Las Rozas U19 in the Spanish U19 League on 20 September 2026, with a second-half header from central defender Adrián Cortés proving the difference between two well-organised sides. In a match of few clear chances, the visitors' set-piece quality and defensive discipline earned them all three points in the Madrid youth derby.

The game kicked off at 18:30 local time at the Ciudad Deportiva de Las Rozas and followed a familiar pattern for matches in this division: compact defensive blocks, fierce midfield battles and very little space in the final third. Neither side managed more than a handful of shots on target across the 90 minutes.

A Tight First Half with Few Openings

Las Rozas U19 started brightly in front of their own supporters, pressing high and forcing a couple of early corners, but they struggled to convert territorial advantage into genuine chances. Rayo Majadahonda's back line held its shape well, defending the width of the penalty area and clearing crosses with authority.

As the half wore on, the visitors grew into the contest. Their midfield began to win the second balls, and a series of patient build-up phases pushed Las Rozas deeper. The best opportunity of the opening 45 minutes fell to Rayo Majadahonda on the counter, but the finishing touch eluded them and the teams went in level at the break.

The Decisive Moment

The only goal of the game arrived in the 63rd minute. A short corner routine dragged the Las Rozas defence toward the near post before the ball was whipped into the middle, where Adrián Cortés rose above his marker and directed a firm header into the bottom corner. It was a goal that rewarded Rayo Majadahonda's growing control of the match and the quality of their dead-ball work.

Las Rozas responded well. The home side pushed their full-backs forward and committed extra bodies into the box, producing a spell of pressure in the final twenty minutes. Twice they forced saves from the visiting goalkeeper, and a goalmouth scramble in the closing stages was cleared off the line. But the equaliser never came.

How the Game Was Won and Lost

Rayo Majadahonda's victory was built on defensive organisation. Their centre-back pairing dealt comfortably with Las Rozas' long balls, the holding midfielder screened the space in front of the defence, and the team defended set pieces with real focus — an area that had clearly been worked on in training. Going forward, they were patient rather than spectacular, happy to build through the thirds and wait for the right moment.

For Las Rozas U19, the performance was not without positives. They competed for the full 90 minutes, created the game's late chances and pressed with energy. The recurring issue was the final pass: too many promising moves broke down on the edge of the area, and the team's crossing lacked the precision needed to punish a well-drilled opponent.

Standout Performers

Adrián Cortés was the obvious headline-maker, combining his match-winning header with a composed defensive display at the heart of the back line. In midfield, Rayo Majadahonda's captain controlled the tempo and repeatedly broke up Las Rozas attacks, while the goalkeeper produced two important saves in the final quarter of an hour to protect the clean sheet.

For the home side, the left winger was their most dangerous outlet, consistently beating his marker and delivering into the box, and the central midfielder showed composure in possession even as the game tightened. Las Rozas' goalkeeper also impressed, making a sharp reaction save to keep the deficit at one goal.

What It Means for the Table

Three points on the road lift CF Rayo Majadahonda U19 up the División de Honor Juvenil standings and extend their encouraging start to the season, with a clean sheet adding further value to the result. For Las Rozas U19, it is a frustrating afternoon — a narrow defeat in a match they were never out of, and a reminder that in this division, single moments from set pieces often decide the outcome.

Both clubs will now turn their attention to the next round of fixtures, with Rayo Majadahonda looking to build momentum on the back of this away win and Las Rozas aiming to convert their late pressure into points on the road.
