CF Badalona U19 2-2 Girona U19: Derby Points Shared After Late Drama

CF Badalona U19 and Girona U19 played out an entertaining 2-2 draw in the Spanish U19 League on Sunday, 20 September 2026. The Catalan youth derby delivered momentum swings, two comebacks, and a late equaliser that left both teams with a point and a sense that the match could have gone either way.

Girona U19 twice took the lead, but CF Badalona U19 showed character to respond on both occasions. The result keeps both sides in the early-season conversation, though each will feel they could have taken more from a game that was decided by fine margins.

Match Overview

Girona started with more composure, controlling possession and looking to progress through central areas. Their midfield found pockets of space between Badalona’s lines, and the opening goal came from a patient build-up that ended with a precise finish. Badalona responded well, raising their intensity and using the flanks to stretch Girona’s defence.

The second half followed a similar rhythm. Girona regained the lead with a well-worked move, but Badalona refused to fold. Their persistence paid off late on when they found an equaliser that sparked wild celebrations on the touchline.

Key Moments

• 14th minute: Girona U19 opened the scoring after a slick passing sequence through the middle.
• 32nd minute: CF Badalona U19 levelled with a strong run and finish from the left side of the box.
• 67th minute: Girona restored their lead, catching Badalona on the counter and finishing clinically.
• 86th minute: Badalona equalised for the second time, converting a cross at the back post to make it 2-2.

Tactical Story

Girona U19 looked the more polished side in possession, using short passes and rotations to create openings. However, they struggled to manage Badalona’s direct running in wide areas. Badalona’s approach was more vertical, aiming to get the ball forward quickly and support the striker with runners from midfield.

The draw highlighted both teams’ strengths and weaknesses. Girona’s attacking patterns were sharp, but their game management after taking the lead was not always convincing. Badalona’s resilience was impressive, yet they conceded twice from moments when their defensive shape was stretched.

Standout Performers

Badalona’s wide players caused problems throughout, especially in the second half, while their central midfielder drove the comeback with energy and accurate distribution. Girona’s playmaker was influential in the first hour, linking midfield and attack, and their striker’s movement created the second goal. Both goalkeepers made important saves in a game that could easily have produced more goals.

What the Result Means

A point apiece keeps CF Badalona U19 and Girona U19 moving in the Spanish U19 League, but the draw leaves mixed feelings. Girona will be frustrated to have surrendered the lead twice, while Badalona will take confidence from their fighting spirit. In a competitive youth league, that kind of resilience can be just as valuable as a win.
