Valladolid U19 secured a hard-fought 3-2 victory over CD Alaves U19 in a thrilling Spanish U19 League encounter on Saturday evening, coming from behind to claim all three points at the Ciudad Deportiva José Luis Compañón. The match, which kicked off at 18:30, delivered end-to-end action, five goals, and a dramatic late winner that leaves Alaves ruing missed chances in a game they largely controlled for long spells.

Match Overview

The visitors from Valladolid arrived with a reputation for quick transitions and clinical finishing, and they demonstrated exactly that in a compelling second-half display. Alaves, playing in front of their home supporters, started brightly and dominated possession early, but a combination of wasteful finishing and resilient Valladolid defending turned the tide. The result sees Valladolid strengthen their position in the upper reaches of the Spanish U19 League standings, while Alaves remain in search of consistency after a promising but ultimately frustrating performance.

Key Moments

• 12th minute – Alaves take the lead: A crisp passing move down the right ended with a low cross that was converted from close range, sending the home crowd into early celebration.
• 28th minute – Valladolid equalise: Against the run of play, a quick counter-attack saw the Valladolid forward race clear and slot the ball past the goalkeeper to make it 1-1.
• 41st minute – Alaves regain advantage: A well-worked corner was headed home powerfully at the near post, restoring the home side’s lead before the break.
• 58th minute – Valladolid level again: A moment of individual brilliance saw a Valladolid midfielder curl a shot into the top corner from the edge of the box, shifting the momentum decisively.
• 84th minute – Valladolid snatch the winner: A late surge down the left flank produced a cut-back that was swept home first-time, completing the comeback and silencing the home support.

Tactical Breakdown

Alaves lined up in a 4-3-3, looking to use width and overload the flanks. In the first half, their midfield trio dictated the tempo, winning second balls and forcing Valladolid deep. However, the hosts’ inability to convert territorial dominance into a third goal proved costly. Valladolid’s coaching staff adjusted at half-time, switching to a more compact 4-4-2 that denied Alaves space between the lines. The visitors then exploited the channels with direct running, turning defence into attack in seconds. That tactical shift was the defining factor in the final 30 minutes.

Standout Players

For Valladolid, the attacking midfielder – wearing the number 10 shirt – was the game’s outstanding performer. He scored the equaliser, drove his team forward relentlessly, and provided the assist for the late winner. The centre-forward also impressed with his hold-up play and intelligent movement, while the left-back delivered a tireless display both defensively and going forward.

Alaves will take heart from the performance of their captain in central midfield, who controlled the rhythm and created several chances. The young winger who opened the scoring was a constant threat, and the centre-back pairing looked assured for large periods. Ultimately, though, individual errors at critical moments – particularly a failure to clear the ball in the build-up to Valladolid’s third goal – proved decisive.

What It Means for the Table

This 3-2 result has significant implications for the Spanish U19 League standings. Valladolid U19 move onto 18 points from their opening ten matches, keeping them firmly in the hunt for a top-four finish and potential national competition qualification. CD Alaves U19, meanwhile, remain on 11 points, sitting in mid-table and now facing a crucial run of fixtures to close the gap on the playoff places. The head-to-head record between these two sides now favours Valladolid, who completed a league double over Alaves following their earlier victory in the reverse fixture.

Looking Ahead

Both teams return to action next weekend, with Alaves facing a tricky away trip to a fellow mid-table rival, while Valladolid host one of the division’s in-form sides. If this match is anything to go by, the Spanish U19 League continues to provide exceptional entertainment and a vital platform for the next generation of Spanish football talent. For Alaves, the focus will be on game management and converting dominance into goals; for Valladolid, the challenge is to maintain the resilience and ruthlessness that earned them this dramatic three points.
