Almeria U19 1-1 Cordoba U19: Andalusian Derby Ends in Stalemate

Almeria U19 and Cordoba U19 shared the spoils in a 1-1 draw in the Spanish U19 League on Sunday, September 20, 2026. The Andalusian derby was a tense, tactical affair, with Almeria controlling long spells but Cordoba showing character to fight back and earn a point.

Almeria began the brighter and took a deserved lead in the first half, but Cordoba's improved second-half display and a well-taken equaliser ensured the visitors left with something to show for their efforts.

Match Overview

Almeria U19 dominated possession early, moving the ball quickly through midfield and targeting the left channel. Their pressure paid off in the 34th minute when a corner was flicked on and headed home at the back post. Cordoba struggled to keep the ball but defended resolutely, limiting Almeria to mostly long-range efforts before the break.

The second half was a different story. Cordoba pushed their wing-backs higher and began to win the ball in advanced areas. Their equaliser arrived in the 71st minute after a swift counter-attack, finished with a low shot across the goalkeeper. Both sides had chances to win it late, but neither could find a second goal.

Key Moments

• 34th minute: Almeria U19 take the lead from a corner, a powerful header at the back post.
• 55th minute: Cordoba's first real chance, a shot from distance tipped over.
• 71st minute: Cordoba U19 equalise on the counter, finishing calmly past the keeper.
• 88th minute: Almeria hit the side netting after a goalmouth scramble.

Tactical Story

Almeria U19 set up in a 4-3-3 and tried to dominate through central overloads, but Cordoba's 5-3-2 defensive block made it difficult to play through the middle. The home side's best moments came from set pieces and crosses. Cordoba adjusted after half-time, pressing higher and using quick transitions to exploit space behind Almeria's full-backs. That change turned the match into a more even contest.

Standout Players

Almeria's centre-back was a rock at the back and scored the opening goal, while their goalkeeper made a crucial save at 1-0. Cordoba's striker was lively throughout and took the equaliser well, and their midfield anchor broke up play effectively in the second half. Both captains led by example in a fiercely competitive derby.

Season Impact

The draw leaves both teams with work to do in the Spanish U19 League, but it also highlights their strengths. Almeria U19 will feel they should have won after dominating the first hour, while Cordoba U19 will take confidence from a resilient away performance in a local rivalry. A point apiece keeps them within touching distance of the teams above them.
