Valdepeñas 1-0 Manzanares CF: Narrow Derby Win in Spanish Regional League

Valdepeñas secured a hard-fought 1-0 victory over local rivals Manzanares CF in the Spanish Regional League on September 20, 2026. The match, played at 18:00 local time, was decided by a single second-half goal in a tense, physical encounter that underlined the importance of local bragging rights.

Match Overview

The first half was a cagey affair, with both sides wary of each other’s threat. Chances were at a premium as the midfields cancelled each other out, and the defences remained on top. The breakthrough came in the 67th minute when Valdepeñas capitalised on a set-piece. Manzanares CF pushed for an equaliser in the closing stages, but Valdepeñas held firm to claim all three points in front of their home supporters.

Key Moments

• 67’ – 1-0: A poorly cleared corner fell to the Valdepeñas midfielder, whose shot deflected in off a defender.
• 82’: Manzanares CF’s best chance came from a free-kick, but the header went narrowly wide.
• 90+3’: Valdepeñas’ goalkeeper made a smart save to deny a last-gasp equaliser.

Tactical Story

Valdepeñas lined up in a 4-4-2, looking to use their physical presence in the air and dominate set-pieces. Manzanares CF adopted a 4-2-3-1, trying to play through the lines with quick passing. However, the match became a battle of attrition in midfield, with little space for creativity. Valdepeñas’ decision to press higher in the second half paid off, as they forced the corner that led to the goal. Manzanares struggled to break down a well-drilled defence.

Standout Players

The Valdepeñas goalscorer, a central midfielder, was the match-winner with a determined strike. Their centre-back was a rock at the back, winning everything in the air. For Manzanares CF, their left winger was their most dangerous outlet, but he lacked support in the final third. Their goalkeeper made a couple of good stops to keep the score down.

Season Impact

This win lifts Valdepeñas up the Spanish Regional League table and gives them local bragging rights. For Manzanares CF, it is a frustrating defeat in a match they might have drawn on another day. Both teams will continue their campaigns with the memory of this tight derby fresh in their minds.
