CD Villamuriel left Becerril de Campos with all three points on Sunday night, beating CD Becerril 2-0 in a Spanish Regional League fixture that was decided in the second half. In a match that kicked off late under the floodlights, the visitors produced the sharper, more clinical performance, scoring once in each period of dominance and keeping a clean sheet that will please their coaching staff as much as the result itself.

For Becerril, it was a frustrating evening in front of their own supporters: plenty of possession in harmless areas, a handful of half-chances, and nothing to show for it. Villamuriel, by contrast, defended with discipline, broke at speed, and took the two decisive moments of the contest.

The two clubs are familiar regional opponents, and the fixture carried the usual derby edge you expect when sides from the same provincial footballing circuit meet. Villamuriel handled that edge better, staying compact when the game became scrappy and punishing Becerril when space opened up after the interval.

How the Match Unfolded

The opening half hour was cagey. Becerril tried to impose themselves with patient build-up down the flanks, pushing their full-backs high and looking for crosses into the box. Villamuriel sat in a disciplined mid-block, allowing the home side the ball in wide areas while crowding the penalty area, and it worked — Becerril's deliveries were repeatedly headed clear.

The breakthrough came against the run of possession. A turnover in midfield allowed Villamuriel to spring forward on the counter, and a well-timed run in behind the Becerril back line was finished calmly to make it 0–1 before the interval. It was the classic away performance template: absorb, then strike.

Becerril came out after the break with more urgency, and for a fifteen-minute spell they pinned Villamuriel back. A shot from distance clipped the top of the crossbar, and a goalmouth scramble ended with the ball hacked away off the line — the closest the hosts came all night. But the equaliser never arrived, and the momentum drained away with each wasted set piece.

The second goal effectively ended the contest. Villamuriel doubled their lead with a move that started deep in their own half, moved through midfield with two quick passes, and finished with a low strike across the goalkeeper. At 0–2, Becerril's body language told the story, and the visitors managed the closing stages professionally, slowing the tempo and taking the sting out of the game.

Key Moments

• First half, opening goal: Villamuriel's sharp counter-attack breaks the deadlock against the run of play.
• Early second half: Becerril hit the woodwork and force a goal-line clearance in their best spell of the match.
• Second half, second goal: A sweeping team move from back to front makes it 0–2 and settles the result.
• Closing stages: Villamuriel see out the game comfortably, restricting the hosts to speculative efforts.

Tactical Story

The match was a clear contest of styles. Becerril wanted to play on the front foot, dominate territory and create through width; Villamuriel were content to defend in numbers, stay organised in central areas and attack the space left behind. The visitors' discipline was the difference — their two banks of four barely broke shape, and their midfield screened the defence well enough to deny Becerril any clean sight of goal from inside the box.

Where Becerril will feel they lost the game is in transition. Twice they committed too many players forward, twice they were punished. Against a well-drilled regional opponent, that margin is usually enough to decide the outcome, and so it proved.

Standout Performers

Villamuriel's goalkeeper deserves credit for a composed, low-drama performance, dealing confidently with crosses and set pieces in the second half when the pressure was at its highest. The centre-back pairing was equally impressive, winning the majority of aerial duels and clearing their lines without fuss. In midfield, the away side's engine room combined energy with intelligence, breaking up play and then releasing runners into space.

For Becerril, the bright spots came from their wide players, who repeatedly beat their markers and delivered dangerous balls into the area. The problem was the lack of a decisive finishing touch, and on a night when the visitors nee
