The home side’s persistence paid off in the closing stages, while Voorwaarts T were left to rue missed chances in a match that remained finely balanced for long spells.

Match overview

SV Leo Victor began with purpose and controlled much of the early possession in Paramaribo. Their patient build-up was rewarded in the 18th minute when Ramon Kromodimedjo finished calmly inside the penalty area after a flowing move down the right. The opener gave Leo Victor confidence, but Voorwaarts T responded well and began to find space between the lines as the half wore on.

The equaliser arrived six minutes before half-time. Voorwaarts T finished the first half strongly, pressing higher and forcing Leo Victor into a series of hurried clearances.

The second half was more open. Leo Victor pushed their full-backs forward and created several half-chances, while Voorwaarts T remained dangerous on the counter. Tactical story

SV Leo Victor set up in a 4-3-3 and looked to dominate the ball through midfield, using quick switches of play to stretch Voorwaarts T’s defensive shape. Their full-backs pushed high when possible, creating overloads on the flanks, though that approach also left space for Voorwaarts T to exploit on the break.

Voorwaarts T lined up in a compact 4-2-3-1, content to absorb pressure and hit forward quickly. Their equaliser came from a set piece, a recurring threat throughout the match, and their midfield worked hard to close the central lanes. The introduction of fresh legs in the final 20 minutes gave Leo Victor renewed energy in midfield, and that shift in tempo ultimately helped create the space for Hok’s winner.

Standout players

Ramon Kromodimedjo was central to Leo Victor’s attacking play, not only for his opening goal but also for his link-up work between the lines. Jarrell Hok produced the moment of the match with the winning goal, while Denzel Apai’s second-half save proved just as important as the strikes at the other end.

For Voorwaarts T, Dylan Pinas was the standout performer, combining a well-taken header with a disciplined defensive display. His movement in the box caused problems throughout, and he remained a threat even as Leo Victor pushed for the winner.

What the result means for the Suriname Major League table

The three points strengthen SV Leo Victor’s position in the upper half of the Suriname Major League standings and give them valuable momentum in the race for a high finish. The victory also tilts the recent head-to-head record a little further in Leo Victor’s favour.

Voorwaarts T remain in the middle section of the table after a performance that offered encouragement but no reward. They will look to turn their set-piece threat and counter-attacking speed into points in their next fixture, while Leo Victor will aim to build on a result that underlined their ability to grind out close matches.
