Nacional FC de Sonsonate fell to a narrow 1-0 defeat against CD El Roble in the El Salvador Segunda Division, a single goal proving enough to separate two sides who battled hard but struggled to create clear-cut chances over the course of the match. For the visitors, it was a well-earned three points on the road; for the hosts, it was another reminder of how fine the margins are in this division.

Match Overview

Played in front of a partisan home crowd, the fixture was decided by one decisive moment rather than a flood of attacking football. CD El Roble defended their lead with discipline once they had it, dropping into a compact shape and forcing Nacional FC de Sonsonate to break them down through the middle — a task the home side found difficult throughout.

The 1-0 scoreline tells the story of a tight, physical encounter. Chances were at a premium, the midfield battle was fierce, and the match was ultimately settled by the team that took its opportunity when it arrived.

Key Moments

• The breakthrough: CD El Roble found the game's only goal, punishing a defensive lapse and taking a lead they would never surrender.
• The response: Nacional pushed forward in search of an equaliser, increasing their share of possession and committing more bodies into the attacking third.
• Defensive resilience: El Roble's back line held firm, clearing crosses and blocking shots as the pressure mounted.
• The final whistle: The visitors saw out the closing minutes to secure an important away victory.

Tactical Story

Nacional FC de Sonsonate wanted to play through the thirds and use width to stretch the opposition, but El Roble's disciplined defensive block limited the space available in the final third. The visitors were happy to concede possession in less dangerous areas and looked to hit on the break whenever the opportunity arose.

That game plan worked perfectly once they went ahead. El Roble sat deeper, slowed the tempo where they could, and made the home side's attacking efforts predictable. Nacional's best moments came from set pieces and second balls, but they lacked the cutting edge to convert territory into goals.

Standout Performers

CD El Roble's defensive unit deserves the plaudits for protecting the lead, with their goalkeeper and centre-backs repeatedly intervening at crucial moments. In midfield, their ability to win tackles and break up play prevented Nacional from building any real rhythm. For the home side, the effort was evident throughout, but the attacking players will be disappointed not to have tested the keeper more often.

What It Means for the Table

Three points away from home are always valuable in the Segunda Division, and this result gives CD El Roble a welcome boost as they look to climb the standings and push toward the upper reaches of the table. For Nacional FC de Sonsonate, the defeat is a setback that leaves them searching for consistency, particularly in front of their own supporters.

Both clubs will now prepare for their next fixtures, with Nacional needing to rediscover their attacking spark and El Roble hoping to build on a performance that showed exactly the kind of grit required to succeed in El Salvador's second tier.
