NK Dren Vrhnika and Krsko Posavlje cancel each other out in 0-0 draw

NK Dren Vrhnika and Krsko Posavlje played out a hard-fought 0-0 draw in the Slovenia 2.Liga on Saturday, 3 October 2026, with both defences and goalkeepers coming out on top at the Vrhnika Sports Park. The point leaves both sides with something to build on, but neither could find the breakthrough in a match that was short on goals and long on tension.

In a league where every point matters, the draw keeps NK Dren Vrhnika and Krsko Posavlje within touching distance of their respective targets. For Dren, it was a display of patience and organisation; for Krsko, it was a night of frustration after creating the better chances in the second half.

Match overview

The first half was a cagey affair, with both teams cautious in possession and quick to close down space in midfield. NK Dren Vrhnika looked to build from the back and use their wing-backs high, while Krsko Posavlje sat compact and looked to spring forward on the counter. Clear-cut opportunities were rare, but the intensity never dropped.

After the break, the match opened up. Dren struck the post from a well-worked corner, and Krsko had a goal disallowed for offside after a sweeping move. Both goalkeepers were called into action in the final 20 minutes, but neither side could produce the finish their build-up deserved.

Key moments

• 18th minute: NK Dren Vrhnika created the first real chance, but a low drive from the edge of the box was pushed wide by the Krsko goalkeeper.
• 34th minute: Krsko Posavlje’s captain headed over from a corner when well placed inside the six-yard box.
• 52nd minute: Dren hit the post after a clever short-corner routine, with the rebound cleared off the line.
• 70th minute: Krsko had the ball in the net, but the offside flag cut short the celebrations.
• 88th minute: Dren’s goalkeeper produced a strong save at full stretch to deny a late Krsko winner.

Tactical story

NK Dren Vrhnika’s approach was built on controlled possession and patient probing. They tried to draw Krsko Posavlje out of their defensive block, then attack the spaces behind the midfield line. The hosts’ wing-backs provided width, but Krsko’s back line held firm and dealt well with crosses into the box.

Krsko Posavlje were happy to defend deeper and strike on the break. Their midfield pressed intelligently in central areas, forcing Dren to play wide, and their front two worked hard to hold the ball up. The disallowed goal showed their threat from quick transitions, but a lack of composure in the final third ultimately cost them the chance to take all three points.

Standout players

Dren’s goalkeeper was the game’s most influential figure late on, making two important saves to preserve the clean sheet. The central defenders also deserve credit for their positioning and aerial dominance, especially against Krsko’s set-piece threat. In midfield, Dren’s deep-lying playmaker kept the ball moving and rarely gave possession away.

For Krsko Posavlje, the captain led by example at the back and nearly scored with a first-half header. The left winger was their most dangerous outlet, repeatedly carrying the ball into space and forcing Dren to retreat. Their substitute forward also added energy in the final stages and came close to snatching a winner.

What the result means

The draw leaves both clubs with a point to show for their efforts, but the mood will differ. NK Dren Vrhnika remain difficult to beat and have another clean sheet to build on. Krsko Posavlje will feel they did enough to win, particularly in the second half, and will be looking to convert similar performances into victories in their next Slovenia 2.Liga fixture.

With the league table still tight, every point could matter in the race for promotion or survival. Dren and Krsko both showed why they are capable of competing in the division, but the lack of a finishing touch was the story of a goalless night in Vrhnika.
