Tabor Sezana claimed a narrow 1-0 victory over FC Koper in their Slovenia Cup knockout tie, using a disciplined home performance and a decisive second-half goal to book their place in the next round. The match, played under the lights on 23 October 2026, was a classic cup contest: tight, physical, and settled by one moment of quality in the final third.

Match overview

Tabor Sezana entered the game as the underdog against top-flight opposition, but they refused to sit back for long periods. The hosts pressed intelligently in midfield, limited Koper’s space between the lines, and grew in confidence as the tie wore on. Koper saw more of the ball, especially after half-time, but struggled to turn possession into clear chances against a compact and well-organised defensive block.

The only goal of the night arrived after the break, when Tabor capitalised on a quick transition and finished calmly past the Koper goalkeeper. From that point on, the home side defended with concentration and commitment, while Koper pushed more players forward in search of an equaliser. The visitors forced several late corners and delivered dangerous balls into the box, but Tabor’s back line held firm to protect a memorable cup result.

Key moments

• First half: Koper controlled possession early, but Tabor’s midfield shape kept the visitors away from the most dangerous central areas.
• Decisive goal: A fast Tabor break opened the scoring in the second half, giving the home side a lead they never surrendered.
• Koper response: The visitors increased the tempo and pushed numbers forward, testing Tabor’s defence with crosses and set pieces.
• Late pressure: Tabor survived a tense final spell, with their goalkeeper and centre-backs making crucial interventions to preserve the clean sheet.

Tactical story

Tabor Sezana’s approach was built on compactness and counter-attacking. The hosts allowed Koper to circulate the ball in less threatening areas, then looked to win it back and attack quickly through the channels. That plan worked perfectly for the goal, and it also helped Tabor manage the clock once they were ahead.

Koper, by contrast, found it difficult to break down a low defensive block. Their wing play produced some promising moments, but the final ball was often cut out or met by a defender willing to put his body on the line. In a one-off cup tie, that lack of cutting edge proved costly.

Standout performers

Tabor’s goalkeeper was central to the result, handling crosses confidently and making at least one important save during Koper’s late surge. The centre-back pairing also deserved credit for keeping the visitors’ forwards at bay, while the midfielder who sparked the counter-attack for the winning goal provided the game’s most telling contribution.

For Koper, the midfielders who kept the ball moving were among their better performers, but the attack lacked the precision needed to unlock a determined defence. The result is a reminder that cup football often rewards organisation, hunger, and efficiency over long spells of possession.

What the result means

The win sends Tabor Sezana through in the Slovenia Cup and gives the club a major confidence boost. For FC Koper, the defeat ends their cup run and raises questions about their ability to convert territorial dominance into goals in knockout football. For Tabor, the clean sheet and disciplined display will be remembered as a strong cup night in front of their home supporters.
