Litija 0-1 Svoboda Peshtera: Second-Half Goal Settles Slovenia Cup Tie

Svoboda Peshtera edged past Litija 1-0 in the Slovenia Cup on Saturday, 24 October 2026, with a second-half goal proving enough to secure progression in the knockout competition. Litija pushed for an equaliser late on, but Svoboda’s organisation and composure saw them through.

The match was decided by a single moment of quality in the 64th minute, when Svoboda turned a spell of pressure into the only goal of the game. Litija responded with energy and urgency, but they could not find a way past a disciplined visiting defence.

Match overview

Litija started the cup tie with intent and looked to use home advantage, moving the ball quickly and testing the Svoboda back line with early crosses. The visitors survived that opening spell and gradually grew into the contest, using compact defending and quick counter-attacks to keep Litija cautious.

After a tight first half, Svoboda found the breakthrough just before the midway point of the second period. Litija threw more players forward in search of an equaliser, but clear chances were hard to come by as Svoboda defended their lead with maturity.

Key moments

• 12th minute: Litija create the first opening, but the shot is blocked inside the penalty area.
• 38th minute: Svoboda’s goalkeeper makes a solid save from a low effort after a quick Litija move.
• 64th minute: Svoboda score the decisive goal with a composed finish after winning the ball in midfield.
• 79th minute: Litija’s best chance of the second half is cleared off the line by a Svoboda defender.
• 90+4 minutes: A late Litija header goes wide as the home side’s final push falls short.

Tactical story

Litija controlled much of the possession but struggled to break down a well-drilled Svoboda side. The hosts often found space in wide areas, yet their final ball lacked the precision needed to trouble the goalkeeper consistently. As the game wore on, their frustration grew and their attacks became more direct.

Svoboda were happy to defend in a compact block and attack through quick transitions. Their midfield worked hard to close down space in central areas, and the back four stayed disciplined against Litija’s crosses. The goal came from a rare moment when Litija were exposed after committing players forward.

Standout performers

Svoboda’s goalkeeper was reliable throughout, dealing with crosses and making an important first-half save. The centre-back pairing also deserved credit for limiting Litija’s clear chances, while the goalscorer’s composure in the decisive moment proved the difference.

For Litija, the midfielder who dictated play in the first half was their most consistent performer, and the substitute introduced late on added energy. However, the home side lacked the cutting edge required to turn possession into goals.

Cup impact

The win sends Svoboda Peshtera into the next round of the Slovenia Cup, where they will hope to carry the same defensive discipline and clinical edge. For Litija, the defeat is a tough one to take, but their performance showed enough promise to suggest they can respond positively in league action.

Cup football is often decided by small margins, and this tie was no exception. Svoboda took their chance when it arrived; Litija did not. That was the story of a closely fought evening.
