Tanjong Pagar United and FC Jurong played out a compelling 1-1 draw in the Singapore Premier League at Jurong East Stadium on Friday, 30 October 2026, with a goal in each half leaving both teams to reflect on a point that felt simultaneously useful and insufficient.

Afiq Noor gave Tanjong Pagar United a first-half lead with a composed finish midway through the opening period, but FC Jurong responded after the break through substitute Haziq Faizal, whose header from a corner levelled the contest in the 74th minute. The visitors finished the stronger side and nearly stole all three points late on, only for Tanjong Pagar goalkeeper Fikri Junaidi to preserve parity with a sharp save.

Match overview

Played under the lights in typically humid Singapore conditions, the match began with Tanjong Pagar United looking to impose themselves on the ball. The hosts lined up in a 4-2-3-1 shape, using their wide players to stretch FC Jurong and create space between the lines. FC Jurong, by contrast, set up in a compact 4-4-2 and seemed content to absorb pressure before springing forward on the counter-attack.

That contrast defined much of the evening. Tanjong Pagar enjoyed the greater share of possession in the first half, circulating the ball patiently and probing for openings around the edge of the penalty area. FC Jurong defended with discipline, keeping their midfield bank narrow and forcing the hosts into crosses that were often comfortably cleared. When the visitors did win the ball, they looked to move it forward quickly, targeting the channels either side of the Tanjong Pagar centre-backs.

Key moments

• 12th minute: FC Jurong produced the first meaningful attack, breaking down the right and sending a low cross into the box. Tanjong Pagar’s defence cleared under pressure, but the warning was clear.
• 27th minute: Tanjong Pagar United took the lead. Afiq Noor received the ball on the left, cut inside onto his stronger foot and curled a measured finish beyond the FC Jurong goalkeeper. It was a goal of patience and precision, reward for the hosts’ controlled start.
• 41st minute: FC Jurong nearly responded before half-time. A quick counter ended with a shot from the edge of the area, but Fikri Junaidi got down well to smother the effort.
• 63rd minute: Tanjong Pagar appealed for a penalty after a tangle in the box, but the referee waved away the claims and play continued.
• 74th minute: FC Jurong equalised. A corner from the right was delivered with pace and Haziq Faizal, who had come off the bench, rose highest to head the ball into the net. The goal changed the mood of the match and gave the visitors renewed belief.
• 88th minute: FC Jurong came close to completing the turnaround when a low strike from outside the box beat the goalkeeper but struck the post.
• 90+3 minutes: Tanjong Pagar’s goalkeeper produced the save of the match, reacting sharply to keep out a close-range effort and ensure the points were shared.

Tactical story

Tanjong Pagar United’s approach was built on controlled possession and patient buildup. Their full-backs pushed high to create width, while the midfield duo looked to recycle the ball and keep FC Jurong moving. The hosts’ best moments came when Afiq Noor was able to isolate his marker and drive infield, but too often the final pass was rushed or the cross was cut out.

FC Jurong’s game plan was clear and, for long spells, effective. Their midfield stayed compact, denying central space and forcing Tanjong Pagar wide. The visitors were also dangerous in transition, particularly after the hour mark when Tanjong Pagar began to commit more bodies forward in search of a second goal. The introduction of Haziq Faizal gave FC Jurong a more physical presence in the box, and it was no coincidence that their equaliser came from a set piece soon after his arrival.

The final 15 minutes were stretched and open. Tanjong Pagar pushed for a winner, leaving gaps at the back, while FC Jurong looked increasingly likely to score on the break. In the end, both goalkeepers were called upon, and both delivered.

Standout players

Afiq Noor was Tanjong Pagar United’s most inventive attacking outlet. His goal was the highlight of the hosts’ evening, and his willingness to run at defenders gave FC Jurong problems throughout the first half. Fikri Junaidi also deserves credit for a composed goalkeeping display, including the late save that preserved a point.

For FC Jurong, Haziq Faizal made the decisive impact from the bench, scoring the equaliser and giving his side a focal point in the final third. The visiting goalkeeper, Daniel Ong, was steady throughout and handled severa
