FC Jurong produced one of their most complete performances of the Singapore Premier League season on Friday evening, sweeping aside Hougang United FC 3-0 at Jurong East Stadium. Match Overview

• Competition: Singapore Premier League
• Date: Friday, 18 September 2026
• Kick-off: 19:30 local time
• Venue: Jurong East Stadium
• Result: FC Jurong 3, Hougang United FC 0

From the first whistle, FC Jurong looked sharper, more aggressive and far more purposeful than their visitors. The hosts pressed high, won second balls in midfield and repeatedly turned possession into dangerous attacks. Hougang United, by contrast, struggled to find any rhythm and were forced into long, hopeful passes for much of the night.

First Half: Early Pressure Pays Off

FC Jurong started with real intent. Inside the opening ten minutes, Danial Tan forced a smart save from the Hougang goalkeeper after cutting in from the left. The warning was clear, and the breakthrough arrived in the 23rd minute. Zulfadli Zainal slipped a neat pass into Tan, who took a touch to steady himself before curling a precise shot into the far corner. It was a goal of genuine quality and it gave the home side a deserved 1-0 lead.

Hougang tried to respond through quick counterattacks, but FC Jurong’s centre-back pairing of Haziq Azman and Faizal Roslan dealt comfortably with the threat. Goalkeeper Shafiq Ghani was called into action once before the break, tipping a low drive around the post, but otherwise the first half belonged to the hosts. At half-time, FC Jurong led 1-0 and looked in complete control.

Second Half: Hosts Turn Control into Goals

Any hopes Hougang had of a comeback were effectively ended in the 58th minute. Faizal Roslan whipped in a dangerous corner from the right, and Aqil Yazid rose highest at the near post to power a header into the net. The goal doubled FC Jurong’s advantage and forced Hougang to push more players forward.

That openness played directly into the hosts’ hands. With Hougang committing bodies up the pitch, FC Jurong repeatedly won the ball back and launched rapid transitions. In the 81st minute, substitute Irfan Najeeb latched onto a through ball, rounded the goalkeeper and calmly rolled the ball into an empty net to make it 3-0. It was the kind of ruthless finish that summed up the night.

Hougang’s frustrations boiled over late on, with yellow cards for dissent and a cynical foul, but FC Jurong managed the closing stages professionally and preserved their clean sheet without alarm.

Tactical Story: High Press and Quick Transitions

FC Jurong set up in a flexible 4-2-3-1 that became a 4-3-3 out of possession. Their midfield duo of Zulfadli Zainal and Haziq Azman controlled the centre of the park, pressing Hougang’s deep-lying playmakers and forcing turnovers in dangerous areas. The full-backs pushed high, stretching Hougang’s 4-4-2 and creating overloads on the flanks.

Hougang United had moments of possession but lacked penetration. Their strikers were isolated, and whenever they did get into promising positions, FC Jurong’s defensive line stepped up to catch them offside or crowded them out. The difference in transition speed was stark: FC Jurong moved the ball forward in three or four passes, while Hougang often needed six or seven just to cross halfway.

Standout Players

Danial Tan (FC Jurong): Opened the scoring with a superb individual effort and remained a constant menace with his movement between the lines.

Aqil Yazid (FC Jurong): Scored the crucial second goal and won nearly every aerial duel in the box. His presence gave the hosts a reliable outlet all evening.

Shafiq Ghani (FC Jurong): Kept a well-deserved clean sheet and produced a vital save at 2-0 that prevented Hougang from gaining any late momentum.

Jordan Vestering (Hougang United): One of the few visiting players who tried to drive his team forward, but he was too often isolated and surrounded by FC Ju
