FK Čukarički needed a second-half response to avoid a Serbian Cup upset, coming from behind to beat lower-division hosts FK Loznica 2-1 in a tense knockout tie. The SuperLiga side were made to work far harder than their pre-match billing suggested, but their superior depth and composure in the final third ultimately told as they booked their place in the next round.

Match overview

Loznica, buoyed by a packed home crowd and the freedom that comes with being the underdog, started with real aggression and pressed Čukarički high up the pitch. The visitors dominated possession but struggled to turn that control into clear chances during a scrappy opening half-hour. The breakthrough, when it came, went the way of the hosts — a moment that jolted the tie into life and forced Čukarički to raise their tempo.

Čukarički responded well before the interval and equalised with a well-worked move that opened up the Loznica back line. From that point on, the SuperLiga outfit looked the more likely winner, and they completed the turnaround after the break with a goal that underlined the difference in quality between the two squads.

Key moments

• Loznica take a shock lead: A determined press forced a turnover and the hosts finished clinically to send the home support into raptures.
• Čukarički level before half-time: A patient passing sequence ended with a composed finish, restoring parity and calming the visitors' nerves.
• The winning goal: Čukarički stepped up the intensity after the restart and found the decisive goal, punishing Loznica for dropping deeper as the game wore on.
• Late Loznica pressure: The hosts pushed bodies forward in the closing stages, but Čukarički managed the game well and saw out the result.

Tactical story

Loznica's approach was built on energy and compactness: they defended in a disciplined block and looked to spring forward quickly when Čukarički lost the ball in midfield. For long spells it worked, particularly in the first half when the visitors were slow to move the ball and allowed the hosts to dictate the emotional tempo of the cup tie.

Čukarički's response was a lesson in patience and adjustment. They widened the pitch after the break, moved the ball more quickly through the lines and began to create overloads in wide areas. Once they took the lead, their game management — slowing the tempo, drawing fouls and keeping possession in safe areas — proved the difference between a professional cup performance and a potential banana skin.

Standout performers

The Čukarički midfield grew into the game and were central to the comeback, controlling the ball and limiting Loznica's counter-attacking opportunities after the equaliser. Up front, the visitors' movement in the box asked constant questions of the Loznica defence, and the winning goal came from exactly that kind of intelligent off-the-ball run. For Loznica, the goalkeeper and centre-backs produced a string of important interventions, while the goalscorer's energy epitomised the hosts' refusal to be overawed by higher-ranked opposition.

What it means

For FK Čukarički, the result is ultimately what matters in cup football: progression to the next round, despite an unconvincing first-half display. The Serbian Cup remains a realistic route to silverware and European qualification, and the manner of this comeback will give the coaching staff both encouragement and clear areas to improve. For FK Loznica, the defeat will sting, but the performance underlined their competitiveness and offered plenty of positives to take into their league campaign.
