Nairn County claimed a hard-fought 2-1 victory over Fraserburgh in the Scottish Highland Football League, coming from behind at Station Park to secure three important points. Fraserburgh struck first, but Nairn grew into the game, equalised before half-time and found the winning goal after the break with a more controlled second-half display.

Match overview

Fraserburgh started strongly and took the lead with a well-executed set piece, punishing Nairn for a slow start. The visitors looked organised and direct, asking questions of Nairn’s back line with early crosses and long balls into the channels. Nairn struggled to find rhythm initially, but they gradually began to impose themselves through possession in wide areas.

The equaliser arrived before half-time, giving Nairn a platform to build on. After the interval, the home side played with more confidence and created the better chances. The winning goal came from a patient attacking move, and Nairn then managed the closing stages well to protect their advantage against a Fraserburgh side that continued to threaten from set pieces.

• Fraserburgh took an early lead from a dangerous set piece, heading home after a delivery into the box.
• Nairn County responded and equalised before half-time with a composed finish after working the ball into the penalty area.
• Nairn started the second half brighter and forced several saves from the Fraserburgh goalkeeper.
• The winning goal arrived after a sustained spell of pressure, with Nairn converting from close range.
• Fraserburgh pushed for a late equaliser, but Nairn’s defence dealt with the final deliveries.

Tactical story

Fraserburgh’s early approach was effective: they played forward quickly and looked to win second balls around Nairn’s penalty area. That direct style earned them the opening goal, but it also meant they expended energy defending for longer periods as Nairn settled. Nairn’s wide players became increasingly influential, stretching Fraserburgh’s back line and creating space for midfield runners.

After equalising, Nairn controlled the tempo better. They circulated the ball with more patience and were rewarded when Fraserburgh’s defensive line was pulled out of shape. The home side’s management of the final 15 minutes was also impressive, as they slowed the game down and defended their box with focus.

Standout performers

Nairn’s midfield drove the comeback, combining energy with composure on the ball. Their wide attackers provided the necessary width and delivery, while the defence recovered well after a shaky opening spell. Fraserburgh’s goalkeeper kept his side in the contest with several important saves, and their set-piece threat remained a danger until the final whistle.

What it means

The 2-1 win gives Nairn County a valuable three points and reinforces their ability to respond after conceding first. For Fraserburgh, it was a frustrating afternoon: they started well and carried a threat from dead balls, but they could not hold their lead. In a tightly contested Highland League campaign, Nairn’s second-half control made the difference.
