Gasogi United claimed a narrow but valuable 1-0 away victory over Musanze FC in the Rwandan National League on October 11, 2026, producing a disciplined defensive performance and a decisive second-half goal at Ubworoherane Stadium.

The result gave Gasogi United three important points on the road and left Musanze FC to reflect on a night of possession without punishment. In a match that was often physical and tactically cautious, the visitors found the one moment of quality that separated the sides.

Match overview

Musanze FC started with the greater share of the ball and looked the more purposeful side in the opening half. Their midfield pressed high, forced turnovers, and tried to feed runners into the channels behind the Gasogi defence. However, the final pass was repeatedly delayed or overhit, allowing Gasogi United to survive the early pressure without conceding a clear-cut chance.

Gasogi United grew into the contest after the half-hour mark. Their shape became more compact, and they began to use quick transitions to relieve pressure. The visitors did not need many opportunities; they needed only one, and it arrived after the break when a well-worked move opened up the Musanze back line.

Key moments

• 12th minute: Musanze FC created the first opening of the match, but a low drive from the edge of the box was held comfortably by the Gasogi goalkeeper.
• 27th minute: Musanze thought they had taken the lead from a close-range finish, but the effort was ruled out for offside after a lengthy check.
• 43rd minute: Gasogi United countered dangerously, only for the final shot to flash wide of the far post.
• 67th minute: The breakthrough came for Gasogi. Eric Nsengiyumva collected a clever pass between the lines, took one touch to set himself, and fired a low shot into the bottom corner for 0-1.
• 81st minute: Musanze nearly responded, but a powerful header drifted just over the crossbar.
• 90+4th minute: A final Musanze corner caused panic in the box, but Gasogi cleared at the second attempt to seal the win.

Tactical story

Musanze FC lined up with a possession-oriented approach, looking to overload the wide areas and create crossing opportunities. Their full-backs pushed high, but that also left space behind for Gasogi to attack. Gasogi United, by contrast, sat in a disciplined mid-block, invited pressure, and looked to spring forward through the middle when Musanze lost the ball.

The decisive tactical difference was patience. Musanze grew frustrated as the half-chances came and went, while Gasogi remained calm and waited for the moment when Musanze’s defensive line stepped up too far. Once Gasogi scored, they dropped deeper and protected the lead with compact lines and well-timed clearances.

Standout players

Gasogi United’s goalkeeper Yves Twagirayezu was commanding throughout, claiming crosses and making two important saves in the second half. Central defender Emmanuel Rwigema also stood out with a series of interceptions and blocks, while match-winner Eric Nsengiyumva showed composure for the goal.

For Musanze FC, midfielder Samuel Niyonzima was the most creative presence, constantly demanding the ball and trying to unlock the defence. His effort and distribution kept Musanze moving forward, but the team lacked a finishing touch on the night.

Table impact and what it means

The win gives Gasogi United a morale boost and valuable away points in the Rwandan National League. They will hope it becomes a platform for a more consistent run, especially if they can pair this defensive resilience with more attacking threat. Musanze FC, meanwhile, will view the match as a missed opportunity at home. They created enough territory and possession to take something from the game but were undone by one defensive lapse and their own wastefulness in front of goal.
