Lokomotiv Moscow Women and Dynamo Moscow Women played out a competitive 1-1 draw in the Russian Women’s Premier League on Sunday evening, with neither side able to find a decisive second goal in a tightly contested Moscow derby.

Played at the Sapsan Arena, the match lived up to its derby billing: intense in the midfield, disciplined at the back for long spells, and decided by small moments rather than a clear gulf in quality. The point keeps both clubs in the upper half of the Russian Women’s Premier League standings and adds another chapter to one of the league’s emerging rivalries.

Match overview

Lokomotiv started with purpose and looked to impose themselves through quick combinations down the flanks. Their early pressure was rewarded when a well-worked move ended with Alina Myagkova finishing calmly inside the penalty area. The home side’s lead was deserved at that stage, with Dynamo forced into a series of hurried clearances.

Dynamo responded well, though. They gradually settled into the game and began to find space between Lokomotiv’s midfield and defensive lines. The equaliser arrived before half-time through Ksenia Kuleshova, whose low strike from the edge of the box beat the goalkeeper after a patient passing sequence.

Key moments

• 18th minute: Lokomotiv take the lead through Alina Myagkova after a sustained spell of possession.
• 34th minute: Dynamo equalise with a composed finish from Ksenia Kuleshova.
• 57th minute: Lokomotiv’s Anna Kozlova forces a strong save from the Dynamo goalkeeper with a dipping effort.
• 78th minute: Dynamo hit the crossbar from a set-piece, nearly completing the turnaround.
• 89th minute: Lokomotiv’s goalkeeper reacts well to deny a late one-on-one chance.

Tactical story

Lokomotiv set up with a high press and tried to win the ball back quickly in the attacking third. That approach created chances but also left space for Dynamo to counter. Dynamo’s midfield trio grew into the game and their ability to switch play stretched Lokomotiv’s back line. In the second half, both coaches made adjustments: Lokomotiv introduced fresh legs wide, while Dynamo dropped slightly deeper to protect the point while remaining dangerous on the break.

Standout players

Anna Kozlova was central to Lokomotiv’s best work, linking midfield and attack with sharp passing. For Dynamo, Kuleshova’s equaliser was the highlight of a busy performance, while their goalkeeper made two important second-half saves. The defensive units on both sides deserve credit for surviving spells of pressure without conceding again.

Season impact

The draw is unlikely to define either team’s season, but it reinforces how competitive the Russian Women’s Premier League has become. Lokomotiv will feel they should have converted more of their first-half control into goals, while Dynamo will take confidence from a resilient away performance. Both sides remain in the hunt for a strong finish as the campaign moves deeper into autumn.
