Tactical Analysis

Spartak’s high defensive line was punished twice in the second half, as Zenit’s pacey forwards repeatedly ran in behind. The winning goal came from exactly that kind of through-ball, with a fortunate deflection deciding the contest.

Standout Performers

Zenit’s left winger was unplayable at times, scoring the third and setting up the first with a defence-splitting pass. The central defender made a crucial goal-line clearance in stoppage time to preserve the win. For Spartak, the striker won and scored the penalty and was a constant aerial threat, while their goalkeeper made two excellent saves to deny Zenit a larger margin.

Season Impact

Spartak Moscow Youth will be frustrated to leave empty-handed after leading at half-time, but the performance showed plenty of promise.
