FC Sevastopol were held to a 2-2 draw by Neftyanik Izberbash in the Russian Third Division B, despite twice taking the lead in a match they largely controlled.

Sevastopol’s patient possession game produced goals from Andrei Belyaev and Vladislav Morozov, but Neftyanik refused to fold and earned a share of the spoils through Magomed Aliev and a late equaliser from Rustam Isaev. The result leaves Sevastopol frustrated at home, while Izberbash will take confidence from another resilient away performance.

Match Overview

Sevastopol started in a 4-3-3 system and looked to dictate play through their midfield trio. They circulated the ball well, stretched the visitors’ 5-4-1 block and created the first clear chances of the evening. Neftyanik, content to defend in numbers, looked to spring forward on the counter and found joy in the wide areas when Sevastopol’s full-backs pushed high.

An evening crowd of around 1,800 saw an open contest after the break. Sevastopol’s technical quality was evident, but Neftyanik’s organisation and direct running kept them in the game until the final minutes.

Key Moments

• 22’ – Sevastopol lead: Andrei Belyaev met a low cross from the left and guided the ball into the bottom corner.
• 39’ – Neftyanik equalise: Magomed Aliev broke in behind and finished confidently past the goalkeeper.
• 67’ – Sevastopol restore the lead: Vladislav Morozov turned inside the box and curled a shot into the far side of the net.
• 79’ – Sevastopol denied a third: A close-range effort was blocked on the line after a goalmouth scramble.
• 86’ – Late equaliser: Rustam Isaev arrived at the back post and converted a deep cross to make it 2-2.

Tactical Story

Sevastopol’s control came from their midfield rotations, which repeatedly created overloads on the flanks. Their full-backs were adventurous, and the front three combined well in tight spaces. However, the home side’s commitment to attack left space behind the defensive line, and Neftyanik’s counter-attacking plan exploited that vulnerability.

Neftyanik’s 5-4-1 shape was deep but not passive. Their wide midfielders worked hard to close down crosses, and their forwards made intelligent runs into the channels. The late equaliser came from exactly that pattern: a quick transition, a wide overlap and a delivery that Sevastopol failed to defend.

Standout Players

Morozov was Sevastopol’s standout performer, linking play and scoring a goal of real quality. Belyaev’s movement in the box caused problems throughout, while the home goalkeeper made one important save to keep the score level in the first half. For Neftyanik, Isaev’s energy and late composure were crucial, and Aliev’s first-half finish showed the visitors’ threat on the break.

Season Impact

Sevastopol will see this as two points dropped in their pursuit of a stronger position in the Russian Third Division B table. Neftyanik, meanwhile, continue to build a reputation for being difficult to beat away from home. Both sides remain in the middle pack, but the manner of the draw could have a lasting effect on confidence at opposite ends of the emotional spectrum.
