FC Rapid 1923 Women produced a statement performance in the Romanian SuperLiga Feminină on Sunday evening, dismantling Universitatea Craiova (W) 4-0 at Stadionul Ion Oblemenco. The visitors were ruthless in front of goal, scoring twice in each half to secure a dominant away victory that strengthens their position at the top end of the table.

Match Overview

The match kicked off at 18:00 local time under clear skies, with a crowd of around 1,200 fans in attendance. Referee Andreea Chivu had little to do in terms of controversy, as Rapid controlled the tempo from the first whistle. Craiova, usually resilient at home, were overwhelmed by Rapid's high pressing and quick transitions.

Key Moments

• 12' – Iulia Munteanu opens the scoring: A swift counter-attack saw Munteanu race clear and slot past the goalkeeper.
• 34' – Cristina Bălăceanu doubles the lead: A corner kick was only half-cleared, and Bălăceanu volleyed home from the edge of the box.
• 58' – Munteanu strikes again: The forward latched onto a through ball and calmly finished for her second of the night.
• 77' – Ana Maria Popa seals it: A flowing team move ended with Popa tapping in from close range.

Tactical Story

Rapid lined up in a 4-3-3 formation, with their midfield trio pressing aggressively to disrupt Craiova's build-up play. The home side attempted to play out from the back but were repeatedly forced into long balls, which Rapid's defense easily dealt with. Craiova's 4-2-3-1 struggled to create clear chances, as their wide players were isolated and the striker received little service. Rapid's full-backs pushed high, pinning Craiova back and creating overloads in wide areas.

Standout Players

Iulia Munteanu was the star of the show, with her two goals and constant movement causing chaos. Cristina Bălăceanu controlled the midfield, breaking up play and initiating attacks. For Craiova, goalkeeper Andreea Păduraru made several saves to keep the score respectable, but she was left exposed by her defense.

What the Result Means

Rapid move up to second place in the SuperLiga Feminină standings, level on points with the leaders and with a superior goal difference. Craiova remain in mid-table, and this heavy defeat will raise questions about their defensive organization. Next up, Rapid face a crucial home fixture against arch-rivals, while Craiova travel to face a struggling side, hoping to bounce back quickly.

This result sends a clear message: Rapid are serious title contenders this season, and their attacking firepower will be difficult for any team to contain.
