ASU Politehnica Timisoara Women delivered one of their most convincing performances of the Romanian SuperLiga Feminină season on Wednesday, 21 October 2026, defeating Vasas Odorhei Women 4-1 at Stadionul Știința. The home side combined patient build-up with ruthless finishing, turning a competitive first half into a one-sided afternoon and securing a result that strengthens their position in the league table.

Match overview

Politehnica started with intent, pushing their full-backs high and forcing Vasas into a deep defensive block. The visitors initially looked content to absorb pressure and counter through the channels, but the home midfield gradually took control of the tempo. The opening goal arrived in the 18th minute when Mădălina Bălan timed her run into the penalty area perfectly and converted a low cross from the right.

Vasas responded well and found an equaliser in the 34th minute through Réka Kovács, whose curling effort from the edge of the box beat the goalkeeper. The goal briefly unsettled the hosts, but Politehnica regained the lead in first-half stoppage time when Ioana Radu struck from a set-piece situation. That goal proved decisive in shifting the momentum back towards the home side before the interval.

Key moments

• 18' – Politehnica 1-0: Mădălina Bălan finishes a flowing move down the right flank.
• 34' – Vasas equalise: Réka Kovács curls a precise effort beyond the reach of the home goalkeeper.
• 45+2' – Politehnica restore lead: Ioana Radu reacts quickest to a loose ball from a corner and fires home.
• 58' – 3-1: Cristina Varga capitalises on a defensive turnover and slots calmly past the Vasas keeper.

Tactical story

Politehnica’s 4-3-3 shape created consistent width, with the wide forwards pinning Vasas’ wing-backs and opening space for central midfield runners. The home side’s pressing after losing possession was particularly effective in the second half, forcing Vasas into hurried clearances and repeated turnovers in promising areas. Vasas, operating in a compact 5-4-1 without the ball, defended bravely for long spells but struggled to sustain attacks once the game opened up.

The decisive tactical difference came in transition. Politehnica won the majority of second balls in midfield and quickly moved the ball into the final third, while Vasas found it difficult to support their lone striker. Once the third goal went in, the visitors’ shape became stretched and the home side comfortably managed the closing stages.

Standout players

Mădălina Bălan was the clear attacking focal point, scoring twice and constantly testing the Vasas back line with her movement. Ioana Radu controlled the midfield rhythm and delivered the crucial second goal before half-time, while Cristina Varga added energy and directness from the left. For Vasas, Réka Kovács was their most dangerous outlet and took her goal well, but the visitors lacked the same attacking support around her.

Season impact

The final score of ASU Politehnica Timisoara Women 4-1 Vasas Odorhei Women gives the Timișoara side a valuable three points and a significant confidence boost in the SuperLiga Feminină standings. The margin of victory also improves their goal difference, which could matter in a tightly contested campaign. Vasas Odorhei will need to regroup quickly, particularly defensively, as they look to turn promising moments into points in their next league fixture.
