Sepsi OSK 0-5 CS Universitatea Craiova: Craiova Deliver Super Liga Away Masterclass

CS Universitatea Craiova produced one of the standout away performances of the Romanian Super Liga season on 27 October 2026, dismantling Sepsi OSK Sfântul Gheorghe 5-0 at the Stadionul Municipal. The visitors were sharper, faster and more ruthless from the first whistle, turning a potentially awkward trip to Covasna County into a convincing statement victory.

The final scoreline reflects Craiova’s control rather than a freakish sequence of events. They pressed high, moved the ball quickly through midfield and repeatedly exposed Sepsi’s defensive shape. By the time the hosts adjusted, the game had already slipped away.

Match Overview

Craiova set the tone inside the opening quarter of an hour. Alexandru Mitriță opened the scoring in the 12th minute, drifting infield from the left before curling a low finish beyond the reach of the Sepsi goalkeeper. The goal settled the visitors and forced Sepsi into a more open game than they had planned.

Andrei Ivan doubled the lead in the 34th minute after a quick transition. Craiova won the ball in midfield, released Ivan into the channel and the forward finished calmly one-on-one. Sepsi’s best spell came just before half-time, but a combination of last-ditch defending and poor final balls kept the score at 2-0.

Any hope of a comeback ended in the 58th minute when Mitriță grabbed his second of the night. A short corner routine created space at the edge of the box, and his first-time strike took a slight deflection on its way past the goalkeeper. Jovan Marković made it 4-0 in the 71st minute with a close-range finish after Craiova again won possession high up the pitch. Ștefan Baiaram completed the scoring in the 86th minute, converting a rebound after Sepsi’s goalkeeper had saved the initial effort.

Tactical Story

Craiova’s 4-2-3-1 shape worked perfectly against Sepsi’s build-up. The front four pressed in a coordinated block, cutting off passes into midfield and forcing long balls toward isolated forwards. With Mitriță drifting between the lines and Ivan running in behind, Sepsi’s back line never looked comfortable.

Sepsi tried to respond through wide overloads, but their crosses were hurried and their midfield struggled to support the attack. When they did break through Craiova’s first line, the visitors recovered quickly and used quick vertical passes to launch counters. It was a mature away performance: patient in possession, clinical in the final third and disciplined without the ball.

Standout Players

• Alexandru Mitriță: Two goals, constant movement and a willingness to shoot from range made him the game’s decisive attacking force.
• Andrei Ivan: His goal and running stretched Sepsi’s defence and created space for others.
• Jovan Marković: Introduced energy and directness, capping his display with a well-taken goal.
• Sepsi’s goalkeeper: Despite conceding five, he made several saves that prevented an even heavier defeat.

Season Impact

The result strengthens Craiova’s position in the Super Liga standings and adds momentum to their push for a top-six finish. A five-goal away win also improves their goal difference significantly, a factor that could matter in a tight race for the championship play-off places.

For Sepsi OSK, the defeat raises familiar questions about defensive concentration and their ability to cope with high-pressing opponents. They remain a difficult side at home on their day, but this was a night to forget. The Super Liga table will show only three points dropped, yet the manner of the loss will prompt a reaction from the coaching staff.
