FK Csikszereda Miercurea Ciuc 0-1 CS Universitatea Craiova saw the visitors grind out a narrow away victory in the Romanian Super Liga on Sunday 11 October 2026. A second-half goal from Craiova settled a tense contest, keeping them in the title race while leaving Csikszereda to rue a missed opportunity at home.

Match overview

Csikszereda began the match with a cautious approach, defending deep and looking to frustrate Craiova. The visitors controlled possession and probed for openings, but the home side's defensive discipline kept the game level for much of the first half. Craiova had a goal disallowed for offside just before the break, which only increased their determination after the restart.

The decisive moment came in the 58th minute. Craiova worked the ball into a dangerous area, and a composed finish from their star forward beat the goalkeeper. Csikszereda pushed numbers forward late on, but Craiova's defence and goalkeeper held firm to secure a valuable three points.

Key moments

• 22' – Csikszereda chance: A quick counter ended with a shot from the edge of the box that went narrowly wide.
• 45' – Craiova disallowed goal: A tap-in was ruled out for offside after a VAR check.
• 58' – Craiova 0-1: A clever through ball split the defence, and the finish was calm and precise.
• 76' – Csikszereda pressure: A header from a corner forced a fine save from the Craiova goalkeeper.
• 89' – Craiova hold on: A last-ditch block denied Csikszereda an equaliser in stoppage time.

Tactical story

Csikszereda set up in a 5-4-1 without the ball, aiming to deny Craiova space between the lines. They defended their penalty area well for long periods, but their attacking transitions were too slow to trouble the visitors consistently. When they did win the ball, they often lacked support in forward areas.

Craiova used a 4-3-3 and dominated the midfield. Their full-backs pushed high to create width, while the central midfielders rotated to find passing angles. The winning goal came from a moment of quality rather than sustained pressure, but Craiova's control of the game was evident throughout.

Standout players

Craiova's goalscorer was the difference-maker, showing excellent movement and a cool head in front of goal. The goalkeeper made a crucial save late on to preserve the win. In midfield, the captain dictated the tempo and ensured Craiova kept their shape even as Csikszereda pushed forward.

For Csikszereda, the central defender was outstanding for most of the match, winning headers and making important tackles. The goalkeeper also impressed with several saves, but the team's lack of cutting edge in the final third proved decisive.

Table and season impact

This 1-0 victory keeps CS Universitatea Craiova firmly in the Romanian Super Liga title race and strengthens their position in the European qualification places. Winning away at a difficult opponent, even without their best performance, is the mark of a team with serious ambitions. FK Csikszereda remain in a relegation playoff battle and will need to find more goals if they are to climb the table.

Craiova will take confidence from a professional away display, while Csikszereda must regroup quickly ahead of their next fixture.
