Match overview

Played under the lights in Galati, the contest pitted Otelul’s possession-based approach against Corvinul’s quick transitions. The home side dictated territory for long spells but struggled to control Corvinul’s breaks. The result adds three valuable points to Corvinul’s Super Liga campaign and leaves Otelul ruing missed opportunities in the final third.

Key moments

• 28' — Otelul equalise: George Cîrjan curled a shot into the far corner after a short corner routine.
• 41' — Corvinul restore advantage: Marius Lupu headed home from a deep cross.

Tactical story

Otelul lined up in a 4-2-3-1 and looked to build through the middle, with their full-backs pushing high. That left space behind, and Corvinul’s 4-2-3-1 was designed to exploit it. The visitors sat compact, won the ball in midfield, and attacked with three or four passes. Otelul’s equalisers came from sustained pressure, but their inability to screen counterattacks proved costly. Corvinul’s midfield duo shielded the back four well in the final 10 minutes.

Standout players

Corvinul’s Andrei Bălan was a constant threat, combining pace with composed finishing. Marius Lupu’s aerial presence gave the away side an outlet, while Robert Hațegan’s late winner capped a tireless performance. For Otelul, George Cîrjan was the creative spark, and Alexandru Pop’s movement caused problems, but the home defence will review the winning goal with frustration.

What it means

Corvinul Hunedoara move onto a more comfortable points total and will take confidence from winning a high-scoring away fixture. Otelul Galati remain in search of consistency; the attacking display offered encouragement, yet the defensive lapses underline why they are dropping points in tight Super Liga matches. The head-to-head now favours Corvinul, and the return fixture will carry extra weight.
