CFR Cluj continued their strong domestic form with a convincing 3-1 victory over FC Botosani in the Romanian Super Liga on Saturday evening. Played at the Dr. Constantin Rădulescu Stadium, the win keeps Cluj in the hunt for the title, while Botosani remain embroiled in a relegation battle.

Match Overview

CFR Cluj started the game on the front foot, dominating possession and creating chances at will. FC Botosani defended deep but struggled to contain Cluj’s intricate passing and movement. The hosts’ early pressure paid off, and although Botosani briefly threatened a comeback, Cluj’s quality shone through in the end.

Key Moments

• 14’ – CFR Cluj 1-0: Ciprian Deac opened the scoring with a trademark free-kick, curling the ball into the top corner from 25 yards.
• 35’ – CFR Cluj 2-0: Gabriel Debeljuh doubled the lead, heading in a precise cross from the right wing.
• 52’ – CFR Cluj 2-1: FC Botosani pulled one back when forward Alexandru Buziuc capitalised on a defensive lapse and slotted past the goalkeeper.
• 79’ – CFR Cluj 3-1: Substitute Rangelo Janga restored the two-goal cushion with a powerful finish after a swift counter-attack.

Tactical Story

CFR Cluj deployed a 4-3-3 formation, with Deac operating as a creative playmaker and the full-backs pushing high to provide width. Botosani sat in a 5-3-2 block, hoping to frustrate Cluj and hit on the break. However, Cluj’s quick ball circulation and precise through balls repeatedly unlocked the defence. Botosani’s goal came from a rare mistake, but they rarely threatened otherwise. Cluj’s midfield trio controlled the game, winning the ball back quickly and launching attacks.

Standout Players

Ciprian Deac rolled back the years with a superb free-kick and an all-round creative display. Gabriel Debeljuh was a handful in the air and took his goal well. Rangelo Janga made an impact from the bench, sealing the win. For Botosani, Alexandru Buziuc showed good movement and took his goal confidently, but he was starved of service for much of the match.

Season Impact

With this win, CFR Cluj keep pace with the league leaders and maintain their push for another Super Liga title. Their home form remains a major asset, and the depth of the squad is evident. FC Botosani, on the other hand, remain in the relegation play-off zone and need to start picking up points quickly. The defeat highlights their defensive vulnerabilities, and the coach will be demanding a response in the next fixture.
